Mrs. Cham Nimul received a courtesy call this afternoon in Osaka, Japan, from Mr. Taniguchi Kentaro, President & CEO of Mirarth Energy Solutions Inc., accompanied by a delegation from Mirarth Holdings Inc., and representatives of ITOCHU Corporation.

At the outset, H.E. Minister commended Mirarth Holdings Inc. and its partner companies for their close cooperation and tireless efforts in enhancing processing capacity and exporting high-quality Cambodian cashew nuts that meet international standards to the Japanese and other international markets.

She also encouraged the company to expand its processing capacity beyond cashew nuts, particularly to include Cambodia’s Geographical Indication (GI) products.

H.E. Mrs. Cham Nimul further welcomed the signing of a Letter of Intent between the Ministry of Commerce and Mirarth Holdings Inc., as well as Memorandums of Understanding between Mirarth Holdings Inc. and five partner companies to promote the import and distribution of Cambodian cashew nuts into Japan, on the occasion of Cambodia National Day at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, held on July 5, 2025.

For his part, Mr. Kentaro expressed his gratitude to H.E. Minister for granting the courtesy call and the opportunity to share updates. He stressed that the company has been working closely with the Ministry’s Export Promotion Task Force, and proudly noted that Cambodian cashew nuts are now available on the shelves of Family Mart, with 16,320 outlets across Japan.

Looking ahead, he highlighted plans to expand the cashew nut production chain in Kampong Thom province and strengthen cooperation with Family Mart, a core business of ITOCHU Corporation, to further explore the potential of importing additional Cambodian cashew nuts and other agricultural products into the Japanese market.

PHNOM PENH: On Wednesday, August 20, 2025, the Ministry of Commerce hosted the second meeting of the Project Steering Committee (PSC) for the European Union-German Global Access and Trade Expertise, or EU-German GATE project.

The meeting was co-chaired by Her Excellency TEKRETH Kamrang, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Commerce.

The meeting focused on key project activities, with a particular emphasis on the promotion of exports of target products, including cashews and pepper. Other topics included:

Formulating and implementing trade policies in preparation for Cambodia’s graduation from Least Developed Country (LDC) status.

Negotiating the ASEAN Digital Trade Framework Agreement.

Strengthening trade competitiveness for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

The committee reviewed the progress of these activities and provided strategic guidance to ensure the successful implementation of the project’s next steps.

Cambodia’s Push for Cashew Processing

The focus on cashew exports aligns with Cambodia’s national strategy to become a global leader in cashew production and processing. Prime Minister Hun Manet has highlighted the importance of increasing high-value production to create jobs, boost farmers’ incomes, and strengthen Cambodia’s role in the global cashew market.

Prime Minister Hun Manet recently noted that cashews are a high-potential agricultural product and that the Royal Government is implementing policies to promote investment in domestic processing facilities. This will help generate employment, increase added value, and enhance exports.

Cambodia has a vast potential for cashew cultivation across multiple provinces. In 2024, the country became the world’s second-largest producer of raw cashew nuts, with a total output of 850,000 tonnes, a 26% increase from the previous year. The country currently has over 580,000 hectares of cashew plantations.

The post EU-German GATE’s 2nd PSC Meeting Focuses on Promoting Cashew Exports first appeared on Estatedia | Economy & Real Estate Media in Cambodia.

PHNOM PENH: Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia, has reaffirmed the Royal Government’s determination to transform the Kingdom into a global leader in cashew nut production, as part of broader efforts to modernise and add value to the agricultural sector.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony for a new Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) office building in Kampong Thom province this morning, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet highlighted the importance of increasing high value-added production to create jobs, boost farmers’ incomes, and strengthen Cambodia’s role in the global cashew market.

“Cashew nut is one of Cambodia’s high-potential agricultural products. The Royal Government has implemented policies to promote investment in domestic processing facilities, which help generate employment, increase added value, and enhance exports,” he said.

With vast potential for cashew cultivation across multiple provinces, the Prime Minister emphasised Cambodia’s ambition to become the world’s leading producer in the near future.

In 2024, Cambodia became the world’s second-largest producer of raw cashew nuts, with a total output of 850,000 tonnes—an increase of 26 percent compared to the previous year. The country currently has over 580,000 hectares of cashew plantations.

However, a significant challenge remains: most raw cashew nuts are exported for processing abroad, mainly to neighbouring countries, limiting the domestic value-added benefits.

To address this, the Royal Government is actively implementing the National Cashew Policy 2022–2027, which focuses on increasing local processing capacity and improving competitiveness in the global market.

Cashew is considered one of Cambodia’s key cash crops, alongside rice, rubber, cassava, palm oil, bananas, mangoes, longans, and pepper.

Currently, the Kingdom has approximately 700,000 hectares of cashew plantations across around 10 provinces, with Kampong Thom ranking as the country’s top producer.

The post PM Ramps Up Efforts to Transform Cambodia into Leading Cashew Producer first appeared on Estatedia | Economy & Real Estate Media in Cambodia.

The purpose of the meeting was for the Federation to report on its progress and achievements, outline future plans, and request ongoing cooperation from the Ministry.

The President of the Cambodian Cashew Federation expressed gratitude to Minister Nimul for her crucial support in the Federation’s establishment in 2022, the organization of the World Cashew Conference, and other collaborative initiatives. These initiatives include participation in local trade fairs, facilitating sales in supermarkets and marts, and fostering engagement with hotel and chef associations.

In response, Minister Nimul highlighted the vital role of the Cambodian Cashew Federation in advancing the nation’s cashew sector. She specifically emphasized the need to enhance processing efficiency and scale, and to boost exports by maintaining current markets while expanding into new ones.

She reaffirmed the Ministry of Commerce’s commitment to continue supporting the Federation and coordinating with relevant stakeholders to further develop Cambodia’s cashew industry.

According to data from the Cambodian Cashew Association, which accounts for both official and unofficial exports recorded in February 2025, Cambodia’s cashew exports (both fresh and processed) generated over $1 billion in 2024. This represents a significant 26.15% increase compared to the same period in 2023.

Cashews are a strategic crop that the Royal Government has been paying attention to and promoting. The government aims to make Cambodia the world’s largest exporter of cashews.

The Royal Government has launched the National Cashew Policy 2022-2027, a roadmap that focuses on three major strategic goals, production strategy, processing strategy, and sustainable export strategy.

The government also aims to make Cambodia a market leader in the cashew industry. Cambodia has great potential for growing cashews. Cashews are a very useful crop and are easy to grow.

According to data from the Cashew Nut Association of Cambodia, the current cultivated area of cashew nuts is about 700,000 hectares.

In 2021, the world production of raw cashew nuts was about 5 million tons, of which Cambodia produced 1,180,000 tons, accounting for 24% of total production. This made Cambodia the largest producer of cashew nuts in the world. In 2022, Cambodia produced 690,000 tons, second in the world.

The Cambodian government is committed to developing the cashew sector. The government is investing in research and development, providing extension services to farmers, and promoting the use of improved cashew varieties.

The government is also working to improve Cambodia’s infrastructure to facilitate the export of cashews. The Cambodian government is confident that Cambodia can become the world’s emperor of cashew exports.

The post Cambodia’s cashew exports down but sector poised for long-term growth first appeared on Estatedia | Economy & Real Estate Media in Cambodia.

Recently, it recalled, CAPRED (Cambodia Australia Partnership for Resilient Economic Development) organized a visit to Australia for 37 Cambodian delegates, including agribusinesses and government stakeholders.

The delegates met with investors, supermarket chains, government agencies, and business associations to connect with potential buyers and learned about Australian import regulations and the art of pitching products to international audiences, the same source added.

With established production in quality fruits, vegetables, nuts, and grains, Cambodia is well positioned for exporting and co-investing in this high-value market.

“We hope to see more Cambodian agricultural products on Australian shelves and to continue to strengthen trade and investment between our countries,” the embassy said.

PHNOM PENH: Investors from South Korea eye the possibility of establishing a cashew processing plant in Cambodia to promote added value and boost exports.

The intention was discussed on Aug. 3 between H.E. Reach Ra, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Commerce, and a delegation from the Korea Rural Economic Institute and the Korea Oversea Agro-Resourced Association (AOAA), led by Project Manager Dr. Heo Jang, here in Phnom Penh.

Dr. Heo Jang said that in the past, most of Cambodia’s cashews were exported unprocessed, leading to a loss of added value. Therefore, AOAA intends to seek the possibility of establishing a cashew processing plant through the official development project of the South Korean government to increase the added value of Cambodia’s cashews for export to the world market.

For his part, H.E. Reach Ra welcomed the initiative, which is well in line with Cambodia’s National Cashew Policy 2022-2027. Cambodia and South Korea have entered a free trade agreement (FTA), so the export of products, including cashew nuts, from Cambodia is free of tariff, he continued.

He also encouraged the Korean delegation to help attract more Korean investors to invest in cashew processing in Cambodia and buy more goods from the country.

The post South Korea interested in cashew processing investment in Cambodia first appeared on Estatedia | Economy & Real Estate Media in Cambodia.
