Cambodia encourages direct flight expansion with China
PHNOM PENH: Cambodia has asked China to expand direct flights from both existing cities and cities without direct flights yet as Cambodia has large-scale international airports that can accommodate all types of passenger aircraft.
The request was made by H.E. Thong Khon, Minister of Tourism, in a meeting with H.E. Rao Quan, Chinese Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism here in Phnom Penh recently.
H.E. Thong Khon pushed for more direct flights from major cities of China to Cambodia’s international airports, especially Phnom Penh International Airport, Siem Reap International Airport, and Preah Sihanouk International Airport.
New Phnom Penh International Airport is scheduled to be put for official use this year, while another new Siem Reap International Airport will be inaugurated in late 2024 or early 2025.
H.E. Rao Quan supported the request and pledged to bring it for further discussion with concerned ministries and agencies before making the next move. The two sides were positive that the expansion of direct flights will be a good opportunity to attract more tourists to the two countries.
