Meanwhile, construction of the connecting roads has reached 15% completion. Overall, the entire project boasts a 30% physical progress rate, exceeding expectations.

During the inspection, Secretary of State Sidenin emphasized the importance of safety and efficiency in construction. He urged construction companies to refine their methods, prioritize worker safety, and install proper night lighting at bridge pillars.

Additionally, he called for increased machinery deployment and strict adherence to the work schedule to capitalize on the current dry season, which offers ideal conditions for road foundation construction. Rigorous testing at every stage of construction was also stressed to ensure the project meets all established standards.

According to H.E. Peng Ponea, Minister of Public Works and Transport, the 845,70-metre-long and 27-meter-wide bridge which connects Khan Meanchey to Khan Chbar Ampov in Phnom Penh and the connecting roads with a total length of 804.30 meters will be constructed by Shanghai Construction (Cambodia) Co., Ltd. for an expected duration of 42 months using a concessional loan from China.

Once constructed, the bridge will ease people’s travel, especially reduce traffic congestion on Preah Monivong Bridges, he underlined.

The Chak Angre Krom-Prek Pra Bridge will become the eighth bridge across rivers in the capital. The other seven already in operation include the Cambodia-Japan Chroy Changvar Friendship Bridge, the Cambodia-China Chroy Changvar Friendship Bridge, the Preah Monivong Bridge (1), the Preah Monivong Bridge (2), Prek Pnov Bridge, the Russey Keo cable-stayed Bridge, and Koh Pich-Koh Norea cable-stayed Bridge.

The Koh Norea Bridge is one of the five key priorities of the Royal Government of Cambodia’s Pentagon Strategy – Phase 1, which focuses on “People, Roads, Water, Electricity, and Technology.”

The 844-meter-long, 24.50-meter-wide cable-stayed bridge connects Koh Norea satellite city in the Chbar Ampov district and Koh Pich satellite city in the Chamkar Mon district across the Bassac River. The bridge has four lanes for vehicles, two lanes for motorcycles, and two lanes for pedestrians. There are also shortcuts under the bridge on both sides of the river.

The Koh Norea Bridge is scheduled to be officially inaugurated in November 2023 under the high presidency of Prime Minister Hun Manet.

The construction of the Stung Bot international border, located in Poipet city, Banteay Meanchey province, started on April 22, 2019, and is expected to cost about $26.42 million.

Along with the border crossing construction, a Cambodia-Thailand friendship bridge connecting Stung Bot and Ban Nong Ian was also built.

The bridge, which cost about $19 million, is 620 meters long – 215 meters on the Cambodian side and 405 meters on the Thai side.

The Stung Bot-Ban Nong Ian international border gate is expected to contribute essentially to Cambodia-Thailand trade and cooperation as well as the ASEAN connectivity vision.

Last week, the Minister of Public Works and a delegation of officials inspected the National Road No. 5 South (Prek Kdam-Thla Mam) Improvement Project and the Pursat City Bridge Project in Pursat Province.

The rehabilitation project is expected to be completed simultaneously with the expansion and upgrade of National Road No. 5, which will facilitate traffic and tourism, especially in Pursat city and the neighboring provinces.

National Road No. 5 (ASEAN Highway No. 1) is a 366-kilometer road that crosses the provinces of Kandal, Kampong Chhnang, Pursat, Battambang, and Banteay Meanchey.

The project is divided into three sections: Northern Part 1 (Battambang-Serey Sophorn), Southern Part 2 (Prek Kdam-Thla Mam), and Central Part 3 (Thla Mam-Battambang and Serey Sophorn-Poipet). The road type is AC concrete (AC), and the project size is approximately $500 million.

The project is expected to provide significant benefits to the country, including increased exports and imports, reduced accidents and traffic congestion, and a better life for people living along the road through the growth of development, investment, and tourism.
