PHNOM PENH: The Royal Government of Cambodia is undertaking a massive infrastructure development initiative, with four key projects totaling over $6 billion. This ambitious plan aims to transform the country’s transportation and trade landscape, fostering economic growth and improving connectivity.

Phnom Penh-Bavet Expressway

Launched in June 2023 under the leadership of former Prime Minister Hun Sen, the $1.35 billion Phnom Penh-Bavet Expressway is a crucial link between the capital and provinces like Kandal, Prey Veng, and Svay Rieng. This highway is expected to significantly boost cross-border trade with Vietnam, stimulating the Cambodian economy.

National Road 1 to Lvea Em Bridge

A vital component of the overall infrastructure development, the bridge connecting National Road 1 to Lvea Em in Kandal province is set to revolutionize transportation in the region. With a budget of over $200 million, this project will replace the ferry system, reducing travel time and improving accessibility for residents of Lvea Em and surrounding areas.

Techo International Airport

Cambodia is poised to enter a new era of aviation with the construction of the Techo International Airport. This $1.5 billion project, scheduled for completion in mid-2025, will enable large-scale flights, connecting Phnom Penh to global destinations. By eliminating the need for transit through neighboring countries, the airport will significantly enhance Cambodia’s connectivity and attract international travelers and businesses.

Funan Techo Canal

Officially inaugurated on August 5, 2024, by Prime Minister Hun Manet, the Funan Techo Canal is a landmark project with a price tag of $1.7 billion. This massive waterway will connect Cambodia’s freshwater ports to deep-sea ports, facilitating trade with regional and international markets. The project is a joint venture between two state-owned Cambodian companies, a local private enterprise, and a Chinese state-owned company (CBRE).

These four infrastructure projects collectively represent a substantial investment in Cambodia’s future. By improving transportation networks, expanding trade opportunities, and enhancing connectivity, the Royal Government aims to position Cambodia as a regional economic hub.

Editor’s opinion:

Cambodia’s ambitious infrastructure overhaul signals a bold bet on the country’s future economic prosperity. By pouring billions of dollars into transportation and trade networks, the government is making a strategic move to transform Cambodia from a regional backwater into a dynamic player on the Southeast Asian stage.

The focus on improving connectivity, both domestic and international, is particularly noteworthy. The new expressway, bridge, airport, and canal are not just infrastructure projects; they are catalysts for growth, promising to attract foreign investment, create jobs, and enhance the quality of life for Cambodians.

The post Cambodia’s Infrastructure Surge: A $6 Billion Investment in the Future first appeared on Estatedia | Economy & Real Estate Media in Cambodia.

As of March 2024, the project has achieved 32% overall physical progress. Bridge construction itself is already at 45.5%, exceeding expectations. This positive development comes after a recent inspection by Cambodia’s Minister of Public Works and Transport, HE Minister Peng Ponea, along with other officials.

While the project was initially planned for completion in September 2026, construction companies involved in the project, including Shanghai Construction Company (SCG), reported progress exceeding expectations, indicating an earlier completion date.

The bridge project is a collaborative effort between the Cambodian and Chinese governments, funded by a US$114 million concessional loan from China. The loan covers construction costs, with Cambodia contributing to demining efforts and other project-related taxes.

Minister Peng Ponea urged all stakeholders to prioritize construction safety and maintain high technical standards to ensure the bridge’s longevity.

PHNOM PENH: The Mekong River Bridge project in Kratie province is experiencing significant progress, with key infrastructure components nearing completion. A recent inspection by Cambodian Ministry of Public Works and Transport officials revealed positive developments on both the bridge structure and connecting roads.

Secretary of State Lim Sidenin, Project Director, led the inspection team. They found that construction on the bridge itself is 45% complete, with a target finish date of September 2026. Meanwhile, construction of the connecting roads has reached 15% completion. Overall, the entire project boasts a 30% physical progress rate, exceeding expectations.

During the inspection, Secretary of State Sidenin emphasized the importance of safety and efficiency in construction. He urged construction companies to refine their methods, prioritize worker safety, and install proper night lighting at bridge pillars.

Additionally, he called for increased machinery deployment and strict adherence to the work schedule to capitalize on the current dry season, which offers ideal conditions for road foundation construction. Rigorous testing at every stage of construction was also stressed to ensure the project meets all established standards.

Funded by a US$114 million concessional loan from China, the project is a collaborative effort between the Cambodian government and the Chinese government. The loan covers construction costs, while Cambodia contributes to demining efforts and other project-related taxes.

Shanghai Construction Company (SCG) is responsible for building the bridge, with technical supervision provided by Guangzhou Wanan Technical Consulting Company. The project is expected to be completed in 2026, as originally planned, with a total construction period of 42 months.

This significant investment in Kratie’s infrastructure is expected to boost transportation, trade, and economic activity in the region upon completion.

H.E. Wang Wentian, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the Kingdom of Cambodia, was also present at the groundbreaking ceremony.

According to H.E. Peng Ponea, Minister of Public Works and Transport, the 845,70-metre-long and 27-meter-wide bridge which connects Khan Meanchey to Khan Chbar Ampov in Phnom Penh and the connecting roads with a total length of 804.30 meters will be constructed by Shanghai Construction (Cambodia) Co., Ltd. for an expected duration of 42 months using a concessional loan from China.

Once constructed, the bridge will ease people’s travel, especially reduce traffic congestion on Preah Monivong Bridges, he underlined.

The Chak Angre Krom-Prek Pra Bridge will become the eighth bridge across rivers in the capital. The other seven already in operation include the Cambodia-Japan Chroy Changvar Friendship Bridge, the Cambodia-China Chroy Changvar Friendship Bridge, the Preah Monivong Bridge (1), the Preah Monivong Bridge (2), Prek Pnov Bridge, the Russey Keo cable-stayed Bridge, and Koh Pich-Koh Norea cable-stayed Bridge.

The post Chak Angre Krom-Prek Pra concrete bridge across tonle bassac broken ground for construction first appeared on Estatedia | Economy & Real Estate Media in Cambodia.

PHNOM PENH: Nestled amidst the lush green mountains of Kampot province lies a hidden gem: Stung Phe Resort. This natural recreation area, once a humble dam, has emerged as a magnet for travelers seeking serenity and stunning scenery.

More than just a reservoir for agriculture, Stung Phe’s crystal-clear waters reveal the beauty of the land below. Mr. Soy Sinol, Director of Kampot’s Department of Tourism, highlights the dam’s dual charm: “Stung Phe serves as a vital resource for farming while enchanting tourists with its breathtaking natural landscapes.”

For visitors, the allure of Stung Phe is multifaceted. Immerse yourself in the verdant forest, bathe in the glow of a majestic sunset, or embark on a scenic boat ride. Explore nearby farms, cast a line for a fresh catch, savor delicious local cuisine, or indulge in the thrill of preparing your food.

The journey to Stung Phe itself is a charming affair. Admire the villagers’ flourishing plantations as you make your way through well-maintained roads. Upon arrival, a 200-meter bamboo bridge welcomes you with breathtaking panoramas. Capture the essence of the moment with a snapshot – the glassy surface of the dam reflecting the pristine skies.

Stroll along the bridge, breathe in the crisp mountain air, and let the tranquility wash over you. Take a seat and soak in the scenery, enjoying a picnic or watching the sunrise paint the mountains in shades of fiery red. For the adventurous, pitching a tent and embracing the starry nights offers an unforgettable experience.

Mr. Sinol acknowledges the need for further development to cater to an influx of tourists. “While we lack large-scale services, we have a dedicated community offering basic amenities and food vendors.” This laid-back charm is part of Stung Phe’s appeal, offering a respite from the bustle of everyday life.

Located in Pong Teuk village, just 61 km from Duren roundabout, Stung Phe Resort is easily accessible. Whether you seek adventure, relaxation, or simply a change of scenery, this hidden gem promises an experience that will linger long after your visit.

PHNOM PENH: The Neak Loeung Bridge, also known as the Tsubasa Bridge, is a magnificent cable-stayed bridge that spans the mighty Mekong River in Cambodia.

It is the longest bridge in the country, measuring a staggering 2,215 meters. The bridge connects the provinces of Kandal and Prey Veng and provides a vital link between the capital city of Phnom Penh and the eastern provinces of Cambodia.

The Neak Loeung Bridge was constructed with the assistance of the Japanese government and was opened to traffic in April 2015. It is a marvel of modern engineering, designed to withstand earthquakes and floods. The bridge has a lifespan of 100 years and is a testament to the progress that Cambodia has made in recent years.

The Neak Loeung Bridge has had a significant impact on the economy and transportation of Cambodia. It has reduced travel time between the eastern provinces and Phnom Penh by up to 50%, making it easier for people and businesses to travel between the two regions.

The bridge has also facilitated trade and investment in the eastern provinces and has attracted new investors to the area.

In addition to its economic and transportation benefits, the Neak Loeung Bridge has also become a popular tourist destination for locals.

The bridge offers stunning views of the Mekong River and the surrounding countryside. Visitors can enjoy walking, cycling, or driving across the bridge, and taking photos and videos of the breathtaking scenery.

The Neak Loeung Bridge is a symbol of Cambodia’s economic growth and development. It is a bridge to the future, connecting Cambodia’s eastern and helping the country to reach its full potential.

The post Neak Loeung Bridge: Cambodia’s longest bridge to the future first appeared on Estatedia | Economy & Real Estate Media in Cambodia.

PHNOM PENH: The Koh Norea Bridge, which recently opened after a long wait, is expected to boost the economy of the tens of thousands of people living in the eastern part of Phnom Penh.

The bridge will help reduce traffic congestion on the Monivong Bridge and make it easier for people to travel, which will reduce costs and help boost economic growth. The bridge is expected to benefit some 200,000 people living in Chbar Ampov district, National Road 1, and Kien Svay district.

The Koh Norea Bridge is one of the five key priorities of the Royal Government of Cambodia’s Pentagon Strategy – Phase 1, which focuses on “People, Roads, Water, Electricity, and Technology.”

The 844-meter-long, 24.50-meter-wide cable-stayed bridge connects Koh Norea satellite city in the Chbar Ampov district and Koh Pich satellite city in the Chamkar Mon district across the Bassac River. The bridge has four lanes for vehicles, two lanes for motorcycles, and two lanes for pedestrians. There are also shortcuts under the bridge on both sides of the river.

The Koh Norea Bridge is scheduled to be officially inaugurated in November 2023 under the high presidency of Prime Minister Hun Manet.

The temporary use was agreed by Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet to ease traffic flow during the annual holiday, the source pointed out, stressing that one side of the bridge will be opened for two-way traffic, while the transport weight is limited to under five tonnes.

After three days, it underlined, the bridge will be closed allowing the construction company, OCIC, to complete the remaining work.

The Koh Norea-Koh Pich bridge is scheduled to reopen for temporary use from Oct. 20-23, 2023, after the full completion of the construction.

The bridge’s construction began on Oct. 26, 2020, at an estimated cost of US$38 million.

PHNOM PENH: The project to improve National Road No. 5, a major highway in Cambodia, has achieved more than 90% success, with the bridge between Pursat City currently under construction.

Last week, the Minister of Public Works and a delegation of officials inspected the National Road No. 5 South (Prek Kdam-Thla Mam) Improvement Project and the Pursat City Bridge Project in Pursat Province.

The rehabilitation project is expected to be completed simultaneously with the expansion and upgrade of National Road No. 5, which will facilitate traffic and tourism, especially in Pursat city and the neighboring provinces.

National Road No. 5 (ASEAN Highway No. 1) is a 366-kilometer road that crosses the provinces of Kandal, Kampong Chhnang, Pursat, Battambang, and Banteay Meanchey.

The project is divided into three sections: Northern Part 1 (Battambang-Serey Sophorn), Southern Part 2 (Prek Kdam-Thla Mam), and Central Part 3 (Thla Mam-Battambang and Serey Sophorn-Poipet). The road type is AC concrete (AC), and the project size is approximately $500 million.

The project is expected to provide significant benefits to the country, including increased exports and imports, reduced accidents and traffic congestion, and a better life for people living along the road through the growth of development, investment, and tourism.
