PHNOM PENH: The construction of Techo International Airport is now more than 94 percent complete, and the airport is scheduled to be officially inaugurated in July this year under the presidency of Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia.

The information was shared by Oknha Charles Vann, Director of Cambodia Airport Investment Co. Ltd. (CAIC), at the end of the visit of a high-level delegation from the Australian and Philippine embassies led by their ambassadors, H.E. Derek Yip and H.E. Ms. Flerida Ann Camille P. Mayo, to the airport on the afternoon of Feb. 21.

The construction team have been working hard to complete the remaining work so that the airport can be put into official use in July as planned, he said.

Besides, Oknha Charles Vann revealed that the Philippine Embassy, through the Philippine Airlines, will cooperate with Cambodia to open an aircraft repair training school at CamTech University.

Located on an area of more than 2,600 hectares in Prek Sleng commune, Kandal Stung district and Takhmao city, Kandal province, and parts of Bati district, Takeo province, the F4-class Techo International Airport can accommodate large aircrafts such as the Airbus A380 and Boeing 747, and handle up to 13 million passengers per year in the first phase.

The second phase, to be completed in 2030, can accommodate approximately 30 million passengers per year; and the final phase, to be finished in 2050, can handle up to 50 million passengers per year.

According to the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation (SSCA), Cambodia’s current three international airports recorded 5.65 million passengers in 2024, marking a 39.8 percent increase from 4.04 million in 2023.

The post Techo International Airport Set to Open in July as Planned first appeared on Estatedia | Economy & Real Estate Media in Cambodia.

PHNOM PENH: The Royal Government of Cambodia is undertaking a massive infrastructure development initiative, with four key projects totaling over $6 billion. This ambitious plan aims to transform the country’s transportation and trade landscape, fostering economic growth and improving connectivity.

Phnom Penh-Bavet Expressway

Launched in June 2023 under the leadership of former Prime Minister Hun Sen, the $1.35 billion Phnom Penh-Bavet Expressway is a crucial link between the capital and provinces like Kandal, Prey Veng, and Svay Rieng. This highway is expected to significantly boost cross-border trade with Vietnam, stimulating the Cambodian economy.

National Road 1 to Lvea Em Bridge

A vital component of the overall infrastructure development, the bridge connecting National Road 1 to Lvea Em in Kandal province is set to revolutionize transportation in the region. With a budget of over $200 million, this project will replace the ferry system, reducing travel time and improving accessibility for residents of Lvea Em and surrounding areas.

Techo International Airport

Cambodia is poised to enter a new era of aviation with the construction of the Techo International Airport. This $1.5 billion project, scheduled for completion in mid-2025, will enable large-scale flights, connecting Phnom Penh to global destinations. By eliminating the need for transit through neighboring countries, the airport will significantly enhance Cambodia’s connectivity and attract international travelers and businesses.

Funan Techo Canal

Officially inaugurated on August 5, 2024, by Prime Minister Hun Manet, the Funan Techo Canal is a landmark project with a price tag of $1.7 billion. This massive waterway will connect Cambodia’s freshwater ports to deep-sea ports, facilitating trade with regional and international markets. The project is a joint venture between two state-owned Cambodian companies, a local private enterprise, and a Chinese state-owned company (CBRE).

These four infrastructure projects collectively represent a substantial investment in Cambodia’s future. By improving transportation networks, expanding trade opportunities, and enhancing connectivity, the Royal Government aims to position Cambodia as a regional economic hub.

Editor’s opinion:

Cambodia’s ambitious infrastructure overhaul signals a bold bet on the country’s future economic prosperity. By pouring billions of dollars into transportation and trade networks, the government is making a strategic move to transform Cambodia from a regional backwater into a dynamic player on the Southeast Asian stage.

The focus on improving connectivity, both domestic and international, is particularly noteworthy. The new expressway, bridge, airport, and canal are not just infrastructure projects; they are catalysts for growth, promising to attract foreign investment, create jobs, and enhance the quality of life for Cambodians.

The post Cambodia’s Infrastructure Surge: A $6 Billion Investment in the Future first appeared on Estatedia | Economy & Real Estate Media in Cambodia.

This collaboration, announced by OCIC, brings together local expertise with global retail standards. Dr. Lim Lina, Oknha Sok Hong (CAIC), and Mr. Dag Rasmussen (Lagardere Travel Retail) recently signed the agreement, solidifying the partnership.

Construction of TIA, a US$1.7 billion project nearing completion, has surpassed 78% progress and remains on schedule for a mid-2025 launch. This significant development is spearheaded by Cambodia Airports Investment Private Limited (CAIC), a joint venture between OCIC and the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation Authority, established in 2018.

The combined duty-free expertise and nearing completion of TIA mark a significant step forward for Cambodian travel, offering passengers a world-class experience upon arrival.

PHNOM PENH: Cambodia’s aviation industry is experiencing a strong comeback! In the first four months of 2024, a whopping 2 million passengers have traveled through the country’s international airports. This is a significant 25% increase compared to the same period in 2023.

Currently, Cambodia boasts 31 domestic and foreign airlines operating flights from various destinations, including 8 ASEAN countries, China, South Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates. Travelers can fly into one of Cambodia’s three international airports: Phnom Penh International Airport (PNH), Siem Reap Angkor International Airport (SAI), and Sihanouk International Airport (KOS).

Last year Cambodia welcomed over 5.1 million air passengers, a remarkable 115% increase from 2022. The future looks even brighter with the upcoming Techo International Airport scheduled to open for business in mid-2025. This new airport, located in Kandal and Tekeo provinces, will further boost Cambodia’s aviation industry.

“These figures are a clear sign that Cambodia’s aviation industry is recovering well from the COVID-19 pandemic,” said H.E. Mao Havannal, Minister in Charge of State Secretariat of Civil Aviation, during a recent visit to the under-construction Techo International Airport.

Cambodia’s famed Angkor Archaeological Park received 421,379 foreign tourists in the same period of the year, earning almost US$20 million from ticket sales, the state-owned Angkor Enterprise said recently.

The figures show an increase by almost 41 percent and 42 percent, respectively compared to last year, the same source added. In April alone, the park attracted 73,845 foreign visitors, making nearly US$3.4 million in revenue from ticket sales. The entrance fee for a one-day visit to the park is US$37, a three-day visit costs US$62, and a week-long visit costs US$72.

The post Cambodia’s Skies See Soaring Passenger Numbers first appeared on Estatedia | Economy & Real Estate Media in Cambodia.

PHNOM PENH- Buckle up, Cambodia! The Southeast Asian nation is witnessing a remarkable infrastructure boom, with several colossal projects transforming its landscape in 2024. These ambitious endeavors promise to revolutionize transportation, trade, and tourism, propelling Cambodia towards a brighter future.

One of the most captivating projects is the Funan Techo Canal. Envision a 180-kilometer waterway carving its path between the mighty Mekong River and the Tonle Sap, the lifeblood lake of Cambodia. This engineering marvel is poised to become a game-changer, boosting trade within the region, improving irrigation for agriculture, and attracting a surge of tourism.

Next, we have the much-anticipated Phnom Penh-Bavet Expressway. This 136-kilometer highway slices through the Cambodian countryside, dramatically reducing travel times between the bustling capital, Phnom Penh, and the Vietnamese border. This vital artery strengthens Cambodia’s position as a key player in regional connectivity.

Taking to the skies, the Techo International Airport emerges as a major international gateway. Located just 70 kilometers south of Phnom Penh, this state-of-the-art facility boasts the capacity to welcome 2.5 million passengers annually. The arrival of this airport signifies a new era for Cambodian air travel.

Meanwhile, on the coast, the Dara Sakor International Airport takes center stage in Koh Kong province. This project isn’t just about planes; it’s about unlocking the region’s eco-tourism potential. The airport serves as a cornerstone for a comprehensive development plan, aiming to transform Koh Kong into a haven for sustainable tourism.

Finally, paradise beckons with the Koh Rong International Airport. Nestled on the idyllic resort island of Koh Rong, this new airport promises to transform accessibility. No more long ferry rides! Visitors will soon be able to touch down directly on this tropical gem, further propelling Koh Rong’s popularity as a tourist destination.

While some projects are still under construction, their completion promises to redefine Cambodia’s infrastructure landscape.

PHNOM PENH: Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet has reaffirmed the importance of Funan Techo Canal project, in reaction to some criticism against this project.

During his inspection visit to the construction site of Techo International Airport in Kandal province this morning, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet said the Funan Techo Canal project will provide high potential for the national development.

“It will provide benefit for some 1.6 million people along the canal and generate many other benefits for the national development,” the Premier stressed. Samdech Thipadei Prime Minister said this new project will link the river system to the sea route under the BOT (build-operate-transfer) contract.

The Funan Techo Canal project has been carefully studied by experts for the benefits of the nation, added Samdech Thipadei, reiterating the Royal Government’s commitment to building the canal to expand the waterway transport, which is more profitable for the economy.

According to the project’s feasibility study which has already been completed, the construction of this waterway of 180 kilometres long and 100 metres wide upstream and 80 metres downstream with two navigation lanes would be launched at the end of 2024, take around four years to complete, and cost some US$1.7 billion.

The canal will link Prek Takeo of Mekong River to the sea in Kep province crossing four provinces: Kandal, Takeo, Kampot and Kep with a total of 1.6 million people living on either side of the waterway.

The post PM reaffirms benefits Of Funan Techo canal project first appeared on Estatedia | Economy & Real Estate Media in Cambodia.

PHNOM PENH: Under the Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA), introduced in 2009 on the initiative of the Airports Council International (ACI), Phnom Penh International Airport has reached Level 3 certification of a program aiming at reducing greenhouse gas emissions, read a press release issued on Monday.

The program, independently verified, has 7 levels of certification: Mapping, Reduction, Optimisation, Neutrality, Transformation, Transition, and level 5. Since the 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 28), ACI introduced this new level 5 accreditation, awarded at this point to only 10 airports worldwide, among them 4 airports developed and operated by VINCI Airports, the parent company of Cambodia Airports, the concessionaire of the international airports in Phnom Penh and Sihanoukville.

The ACA program requires the monitoring of the airport’s carbon footprint and the implementation of actions to reduce the footprint over the years.

To achieve its targets, the airport has invested heavily in highly efficient chiller systems for central air conditioning, replaced all light sources with LED technologies, or reduced the use of diesel ground generators.

The upgrade to level 3 of Phnom Penh International Airport results from associating third parties, such as restaurants, fuel suppliers, and airliners, into the program, further curbing carbon footprint emissions.

On another front, Cambodia Airports has deployed a comprehensive program aiming at waste management, streamlining water consumption, and protecting natural resources and biodiversity. It also includes the building of a waste sorting facility to recover recyclable wastes and separate food waste from the rest, and the replacement of waste bins to promote waste segregation at the source.

Cyril GIROT, CEO of Cambodia Airports, said that being a pioneer and a leader in environmental actions is a key strategy for Cambodia Airports, powered by VINCI Airports and doubling down the ACA program, Phnom Penh Airport has successfully been certified ISO 14001 in December 2023.

“The achievements demonstrate our strong commitment to coping with the challenges of global climate change. I want to express my appreciation to our personnel and partners for actively taking part in these environmental initiatives, contributing to all communities, and making real positive mobility,” Cyrill GIROT said.

PHNOM PENH: Cambodia’s wings are spreading wide, as the Southeast Asian nation embarks on an ambitious infrastructure development program to fuel its economic growth and transform itself into a regional transportation hub. From sky-high aspirations of new airports to earth-shattering plans for a monumental canal, Cambodia is writing a new chapter in its infrastructure story.

Cambodia’s ambitious infrastructure push takes flight with the recently inaugurated Siem Reap Angkor International Airport, a $1.1 billion jewel poised to propel tourism and economic growth. But the story doesn’t end there. On the ground, another monumental project awaits its turn: the Techo Funan Canal, a $1.7 billion waterway carving a path from the Mekong River to the open sea, recently granted the green light by the government. And towering above them all, the Phnom Penh International Airport, the biggest international gateway in the making, stands half-built, its completion slated for late 2024.

The skies above Siem Reap sparkled with excitement on November 16th, 2023, as the grand inauguration of the Siem Reap Angkor International Airport took center stage. This $1.1 billion marvel, stretching majestically across 700 hectares, is poised to become a tourism magnet and a potent economic driver for both Siem Reap province and Cambodia at large.

Airbus A340-300s and Boeing 777s gracefully glide onto the runway, ferrying eager tourists to the wonders of Angkor Wat. The airport boasts an impressive capacity to handle 7 million passengers annually in its initial phase, with the infrastructure designed to eventually accommodate a staggering 20 million passengers by 2040.

This visionary project is a joint venture between three Chinese companies – Yunnan Investment Company, Yunnan Construction Company, and Yunnan Airport Operations Management Company – united under the banner of Angkor International Airport Investment (AIAI).

Cambodia’s waterways are about to witness a transformative leap with the Techo Funan Canal, a groundbreaking $1.7 billion project that will stitch the mighty Mekong River to the open sea. This 180-kilometer marvel, meticulously planned as a public-private partnership (PPP), stands as a testament to Cambodia’s commitment to self-reliance, opting for private investment instead of foreign loans.

The canal’s two navigation lanes, each carving an impressive 100 meters of upstream and 80 meters of downstream water. This maritime masterpiece promises to revolutionize trade and commerce, with its four-year construction timeline paving the way for dams, bridges, and a scenic 208-kilometer riverside path that will touch the lives of an estimated 1.6 million residents across four provinces.

The crown jewel of Cambodia’s aviation ambitions is yet to come Phnom Penh International Airport will be a large international airport, able to handle the biggest aircraft such as the Airbus A380 and Boeing 747. It will initially have a capacity of millions of passengers per year, with plenty of room to grow. The first phase of the airport will have numerous aircraft gates. The existing Phnom Penh Airport will be used for domestic flights, private jets, military and government use.

The Cambodian government has authorized the development company to build and develop the new Phnom Penh International Airport in southern Cambodia. The first phase of the project is a new airport with a total investment of billions of dollars.

The new airport is designed for tens of millions of passengers and will have advanced infrastructure, including three runways and a satellite terminal. Construction is over halfway complete and is expected to be finished by the end of 2024. The airport will start operating next year.

These three projects, though at different stages, are intricately woven together. Siem Reap attracts tourists, who then connect to the wider world through Phnom Penh. The Techo Funan Canal facilitates trade, feeding the economic growth fuelled by tourism. Together, they create a synergistic effect, propelling Cambodia’s ascent on the regional and global stage.

The post Building the Future: Cambodia’s infrastructure boom boasts combined value of over $4 billion first appeared on Estatedia | Economy & Real Estate Media in Cambodia.
