The report, released on Feb. 24, stated that railway development in Cambodia focuses on rehabilitating and upgrading existing railways (northern and southern) to high-speed railways and considering new routes.

As of 2025, most railway projects are in the study phase, with the Phnom Penh-Poipet railway capacity upgrade project being studied by the Railway Department of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, CRBC, and Royal Railway.

Separately, a new railway construction project of Phnom Penh-Techo International Airport (Takhmao city, Kandal province) is being studied by China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation, added the report.

Siem Reap-Siem Reap Angkor International Airport (Sotr Nikum district, Siem Reap province) route is also in the study phase in collaboration with China’s firm.

According to the master plan, Cambodia needs an investment of approximately US$10 billion to develop a total of eight railway transport projects.

The post Ministry’s Report Shows Progresses of Railway Project Studies first appeared on Estatedia | Economy & Real Estate Media in Cambodia.

The 60 wagons arrived on the evening of December 1, 2024, and were unloaded the following morning, December 2, 2024. This development signifies a significant step forward in Royal Railway’s commitment to providing efficient and reliable rail freight services across Cambodia.

Sourced from a leading Chinese manufacturer, these new flat wagons are designed to accommodate a diverse range of cargo, including containers, heavy machinery, construction materials, and more. Their arrival will enhance Royal Railway’s ability to offer efficient and reliable logistics solutions to businesses throughout Cambodia and the region.

Before being deployed, the wagons will undergo a thorough brake test system check to ensure operational safety. Once this safety protocol is completed, the wagons will be immediately integrated into Royal Railway’s operations, supporting industries nationwide.

John Guiry, CEO of Royal Railway, expressed excitement about this pivotal moment for the company, stating, “The addition of these 60 wagons reflects our dedication to providing high-quality freight services and reinforces our role in Cambodia’s economic development.

PHNOM PENH:: Kandal provincial administration and a Chinese firm have discussed the construction project of a new lightweight railway connecting the Techo International Airport in Kandal province with Phnom Penh capital.

The discussion took place in a meeting between H.E. Kong Sophorn, Governor of Kandal province, and a delegation from China Metro in Kandal province on Aug. 22.

The new railway will be a new achievement for Kandal province, easing the transport of the locals and reducing traffic congestion in the province.

The Royal Government of Cambodia is working hard to develop the transport sector and welcomes all investments that contribute positively to the effort.

Encompassing 2,600 hectares in Takhmao town, Kandal Stung district of Kandal province, and Bati district of Takeo province, the Techo International Airport is expected to put into operation in 2025.

Kandal Province, located at the heart of Cambodia’s economy with its surrounding territory of the nation’s capital, holds a dominant position in the country’s garment manufacturing industry, along with numerous other manufacturing and service businesses.

As of July, the construction of Techo International Airport is now over 50 percent complete for the first phase and is expected to be put into operation in 2025.

Once the first phase is completed, the Techo International Airport will be able to welcome large aircraft with 32 parking lots, accommodate from 13 million to 15 million passengers a year, and handle 175,000 tonnes of air cargo annually by 2024.

PHNOM PENH: The Cambodian Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT) is studying a new railway line that would connect six provinces in Cambodia with Vietnam. The line would run from Poipet, on the Thai border, to Bavet, on the Vietnamese border, and would pass through Siem Reap, Kampong Thom, Kampong Chhnang, and Phnom Penh.

The new railway line is seen as a way to boost Cambodia’s economy and improve transportation between the country and its neighbors. It would also help to connect Cambodia’s two existing railway lines, which are currently in disrepair.

The Ministry of Public Works and Transport is currently in the early stages of planning the new railway line. They are working to determine the route of the line, the type of train that would be used, and the estimated cost of the project. Once the planning is complete, the Ministry will need to secure funding for the project. They are hoping to receive funding from both the Cambodian government and international donors.

Cambodia has two existing railway lines. The first line, which runs from Phnom Penh to Poipet, was built in 1929 and 1942. The second line, which runs from Phnom Penh to Sihanoukville, was built from 1960 to 1969. Both of these lines were damaged during the Khmer Rouge regime in the 1970s. They have since been repaired, but they are still in need of further rehabilitation.

The new railway line that is being studied in Cambodia is part of a larger project called the Singapore-Kunming Railway (SKRL). The SKRL is a proposed railway line that would connect Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, and China.

The post Cambodia studies new railway line to connect with Vietnam first appeared on Estatedia | Economy & Real Estate Media in Cambodia.

PHNOM PENH: H.E. Sun Chanthol, Minister of Public Works and Transport, presided over a meeting to review the Ministry of Public Works and Transport’s preliminary results on Monday, January 23, 2023. The feasibility of converting the northern Phnom Penh-Poipet railway to a high-speed railway is being investigated.

The study project, which was overseen by China Roads and Bridges Corporation (CRBC), produced the following results: (1) Project Overview (2) Economic and Traffic Analysis (3) Construction Plan (4) Standards Basic techniques of the railway line (5) Transportation arrangements (6) Total construction and investment period (7) Financial assessment and (8) Clarification of a number of key issues.

According to the preliminary study, the project has a total length of 382 km and requires an investment of more than 4 billion US dollars, The high-speed railway has a width of 1,435 mm, a speed of 160 km/h, and a total of 33 stations to operate, 19 in the short term and 14 in the long term.

Furthermore, the line will be equipped with electric locomotives, with the construction of more than 300 overpasses to avoid traffic accidents at road intersections, and there will be a separation between the passenger terminal and the Lifting station in Phnom Penh (one at Phnom Penh station for passengers and the other at Samrong station for loading and unloading).

The upgrade of the Phnom Penh-Poipet Northern Railway to a high-speed railway is primarily focused on international passenger and freight services between Cambodia and Thailand, as well as passenger and freight transport. The line connects Phnom Penh to Poipet, passing through the provinces of Kandal, Kampong Chhnang, Pursat, Battambang, and Banteay Meanchey.

The project will be Cambodia’s first standard high-speed rail line, serving as a major passenger and freight route both within the country and beyond.
