PHNOM PENH: China has reaffirmed its commitment to providing comprehensive support to Cambodia as the Kingdom intensifies efforts to dismantle sophisticated technology-driven scam operations and eliminate cybercrime networks.

The assurance was given by Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia, H.E. Wang Wenbin, during a high-level meeting on Tuesday with H.E. Santepundit Chhay Sinarith, Senior Minister in charge of Special Missions and Head of the Secretariat of the Commission for Combating Online Scams (CCOS).

H.E. Chhay Sinarith lauded the robust security partnership between the two nations, noting that joint operations against cross-border technology crimes have already yielded significant results.

He emphasised the Cambodian Royal Government’s “firm and specific” stance on eradicating criminal hubs and prosecuting ringleaders.

“Cambodia will continue to collaborate with partner countries to ensure consistent enforcement operations aimed at dismantling criminal nests and uprooting these syndicates entirely,” the Senior Minister stated.

Ambassador Wang Wenbin expressed gratitude to the Cambodian authorities for their recent cooperation in arresting and extraditing Chinese masterminds and their accomplices to face prosecution in China. He described these successful deportations as “clear evidence” to the international community of Cambodia’s resolve to tackle cyber fraud.

The Ambassador further noted that Cambodia’s strategic action plan has bolstered international confidence in the Kingdom’s capacity to suppress these crimes. He reiterated that Beijing remains “ready and willing” to provide any necessary assistance to help Cambodia achieve its goal of a complete sweep of technology-related crimes.

The meeting concluded with both parties discussing future operational steps and intelligence sharing to enhance the efficiency of ongoing crackdowns on cybercriminal infrastructure within the region.

The post China Pledges Full Support to Cambodia in Crackdown on Cybercrime Syndicates first appeared on Estatedia | Economy & Real Estate Media in Cambodia.

PHNOM PENH: The third ring road in Phnom Penh capital has been named after H.E. Xi Jinping, President of the People’s Republic of China.
A symbolic inauguration ceremony for naming the third ring road as “Xi Jinping Boulevard” took place under the presidency of Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet and Chinese Ambassador H.E. Wang Wentian, following their farewell meeting here at the Peace Palace on the afternoon of May 28.

The third ring road of 53 kilometres long and 22 metres wide, connecting National Road (NR) No. 4 in Sangkat Chaom Chao 3, Khan Pursenchey, Phnom Penh, to NR1 in Dei Ith commune, Kean Svay district, plays a key role in easing cross-border transport, promoting international trade and turning the surrounding areas into a development zone.

This boulevard is a testament to the long history of Cambodia-China relations which have grown to an unbreakable level.

So far, China has helped build nearly 4,000 kilometres of roads in Cambodia.

PHNOM PENH: On May 23rd, 2024, Duke Kith Meng, President of the Cambodian Chamber of Commerce (CCC), met with HE Yang Youzing, Vice President of the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce, to discuss cooperation.

This meeting built upon the strong foundation established by the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Cambodian Chamber of Commerce and the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce on May 30, 2018. The discussion aimed to further strengthen ties between the two organizations and promote trade and investment between China and Cambodia.

Both parties emphasized achieving common prosperity through continued collaboration in key areas. This follows the recent elevation of the Cambodia-China relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership in 2010.

President Meng highlighted Cambodia’s attractive investment environment, including high economic growth, political stability, a young workforce, competitive costs, and a strategic geographic location within ASEAN. He encouraged Chinese investors to explore these opportunities, emphasizing Cambodia’s position as a prime investment destination.

Supporting this outlook, the ASEAN+3 Macroeconomic Research Office (AMRO) recently released a positive economic forecast for Cambodia. The report predicts a 5.6% growth in 2024, exceeding 2023’s 5% growth. This positive trend is driven by factors like garment and non-garment exports, alongside a reviving tourism sector.

PHNOM PENH: Cambodia-China trade continued to rise in 2023 despite a slowdown in global demand, thanks to the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) agreement and the Cambodia-China Free Trade Agreement (CCFTA), a commerce official and experts said on Wednesday.

Cambodian Ministry of Commerce’s Secretary of State and Spokesperson Penn Sovicheat said the RCEP and the CCFTA, both of which took effect in 2022, had provided strong momentum into this growth.

“Under the two agreements, our products, especially high-quality agricultural produce such as milled rice, yellow bananas, mangoes, longans, cassava, and pepper, have been exported to China with preferential tariffs,” he told Xinhua.

“The two trade pacts have become catalysts for Cambodia’s long-term trade growth and a magnet to attract more foreign direct investment to our country,” he added.

Sovicheat also attributed the growth to excellent ties and close cooperation between the two countries as well as promotional trade events such as expos and business forums.

Kin Phea, director-general of the International Relations Institute of Cambodia, a think-tank under the Royal Academy of Cambodia, said the trade growth showed robust economic ties between Cambodia and China amid a fall in global demand.

“The growth in a time of global difficulties truly reflects the resilience of trade relations between the two countries,” he told Xinhua.

“This growing trade volume has provided greater benefits to the two countries and peoples, injecting more impetus into building a Cambodia-China community with a shared future in the new era,” he added.

Senior economist Ky Sereyvath, director-general of the Institute of China Studies at the Royal Academy of Cambodia, said Cambodia-China relations were elevated to the comprehensive strategic partnership of cooperation in 2010 and then evolved into the ironclad friendship and the Diamond Hexagon cooperation.

He said Chinese aid and investment have played a crucial role in supporting Cambodia’s socio-economic development and generating hundreds of thousands of jobs for local people.

“Many Chinese mega-investment projects under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), such as expressways, logistics facilities, ports, airports, hydropower plants and special economic zones, have created favorable conditions for Cambodia to boost its trade exchanges with China and the rest of the world,” he told Xinhua.

The post Cambodia-China trade continues to grow despite global demand slowdown first appeared on Estatedia | Economy & Real Estate Media in Cambodia.

PHNOM PENH: Cambodia’s Deputy Prime Minister H.E. Sun Chanthol has praised the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) for its enormous contributions to the country’s economic growth and development.

He made the remark at the International Symposium to commemorate the 10th Anniversary of China’s Principle of Amity, Sincerity, Mutual Benefit, and Inclusiveness in Neighborhood Diplomacy held on Oct. 24 in Beijing, People’s Republic of China.

“China’s Belt and Road initiative has enormously helped the Cambodian people, rapidly reducing poverty and promoting Cambodia’s socio-economic development towards becoming a high-economic country by 2050,” said H.E Sun Chanthol, who is also the First Vice-President of the Council for the Development of Cambodia.

H.E. also paid a visit to Guangzhou and Shenzhen to discuss with large Chinese companies with experience in investing in a wide range of real estate, finance, agriculture, and modern transportation systems.

Mr. Lor Vichet, Vice President of the Cambodia Chinese Commerce Association (CCCA), echoed H.E. Sun Chanthol’s views, saying that the BRI has opened up endless investment possibilities for Cambodia as many other countries are connected to the port of Guangzhou.

“Since the late 1970s, the Chinese economic reform introduced by Deng Xiaoping, Guangzhou along with Beijing, Shanghai, and Shenzhen have become strategic cities for the country’s sustainable development,” he noted

Guangzhou is an established global transport hub and also an emerging science, and technology innovation center, and Cambodia can tap on this potential to expand the partnership with the city to turn the Kingdom or Phnom Penh city into a global transport and trade hub, and an emerging science and technology innovation center, he added.
