The West-Educated Prime Minister: Hun Manet’s Rise to Power

PHNOM PENH: His Excellency Doctor Hun Manet, the eldest son of Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, will be officially sworn in as the new Prime Minister of Cambodia on the evening of August 22, 2023. This was announced by Prime Minister Hun Sen in a surprising statement and 's general election recently in July.

He is a current Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces, and Commander of the Royal Cambodian Army, gaining support from the ruling CPP as the future Prime Minister candidate in December 2021. He was born on October 20, 1977, in Koh Thmor village, Memot district, Kampong Cham province (now Tbong Khmum province) during the Khmer Rouge regime.

Before His Education in Western Countries:

Hun Manet and his mother, Bun Rany, met their father, Samdech Techo Hun Sen, in Phnom Penh on February 24, 1979, after two years of hiding. The Khmer Rouge regime was overthrown on January 7, 1979. Hun Manet was a gifted student in mathematics throughout his high school years.

He consistently scored at the top of his class and was awarded first place in the national mathematics examination. Hun Manet was sent to study in the United States at 16, after graduating from high school in Phnom Penh in the early 1990s. This was at the behest of his father, Samdech Techo Hun Sen, who wanted his son to receive a Western education. Life and Education in Western Countries:

Living in the United States was a time when Hun Manet learned to discipline himself. He was away from his parents' direct supervision, but he still maintained a high level of character and a love of education. He worked hard to study and eventually graduated from famous American schools, such as the military academy at West Point.

Hun Manet was the first Cambodian to study at the United States Military Academy at West Point and holds a Master of Economics from the University of New York and a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Bristol in the United Kingdom.

He joined the World as an intern and was then sent to work in the Congo after graduating with a master's degree from the University of New York. Hun Manet used to live with a French family in France and picked apples to learn French.

He later earned money by teaching math to second-and third-year students in the United Kingdom while studying for a doctorate. This was to help reduce the financial burden on his parents.” Settling Back in Cambodia:

After returning to Cambodia, His Excellency Doctor Hun Manet has taken on challenges and worked tirelessly to promote the national interest of Cambodia, both domestically and internationally. He has been particularly active in the fight against the pandemic.

In the ranks of the Cambodian People's Party, His Excellency Hun Manet is a member of the Standing Committee and was appointed Chairman of the head of Central Party Youth in June 2020.

His Excellency Hun Manet was unanimously endorsed by the Cambodian People's Party (CPP) Central Committee to be the next Prime Minister of Cambodia after Samdech Techo Hun Sen. The 775 members of the Central Committee voted in favor of Hun Manet, out of a total of 865. Hun Manet is the only CPP candidate to run for office on December 21, 2021.
