PHNOM PENH: On April 4, 2025, Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) and Minister of Economy and Finance, Dr. Aun Pornmoniroth, met with Mr. Kenichiro Kashiwase, Mission Chief of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), to discuss the Cambodian economic situation. During the meeting, Dr. Aun Pornmoniroth confirmed that the Cambodian economy has demonstrated resilience despite significant external uncertainties. He noted that while some sectors have exceeded initial projections, others may experience a decline compared to earlier estimates.

Specifically, regarding the impact of potential US import tariffs, particularly the US Reciprocal Tariffs policy, Dr. Aun Pornmoniroth emphasized the Royal Government of Cambodia’s proactive approach. As reported by AKP on Thursday, the government has been diligently monitoring the situation and has swiftly established a working group. This group is tasked with assessing the consequences of the US Reciprocal Tariffs policy and developing necessary measures to ensure trade stability with international partners. Furthermore, the working group aims to enhance Cambodia’s competitiveness in both the short and medium term.

Concerning the medium-term public finance outlook, Dr. Aun Pornmoniroth stated the Royal Government’s commitment to strengthening revenue collection, improving spending efficiency, and building budget reserves. He highlighted the recent launch of the “Revenue Mobilization Strategy (RMS) of the 7th National Assembly” in early 2025 and the ongoing preparation of other policy frameworks, including the “Program to Enhance Competitiveness, Increase Diversification, and Strengthen Resilience for Economic Growth in a Global Environment of High Uncertainty 2024-2028” and the “Medium-Term Public Finance Framework 2026-2028.”

Mr. Kenichiro Kashiwase commended the Royal Government of Cambodia for its proactive economic and public finance management, acknowledging the nation’s growth achievements and progress towards long-term objectives.

The IMF team pledged to continue monitoring and evaluating the impact of US policies on the Cambodian economy. They also committed to providing recommendations and collaborating with the Royal Government to ensure macroeconomic and public financial sustainability and stability.

The IMF further expressed its commitment to offering technical assistance on the Royal Government’s priorities, particularly exploring the implementation of Policy Coordination Instruments (PCI). PCI is an IMF initiative designed to facilitate and strengthen dialogue with partner countries on reform efforts and mobilize financing resources.

The post Cambodia’s Economic Outlook and Strategic Response to US Tariffs, with IMF Assistance first appeared on Estatedia | Economy & Real Estate Media in Cambodia.

PHNOM PENH: Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet this afternoon urged all foreign investors and businessmen around the world to come to invest in Cambodia.

Addressing a get-together and a solidarity dinner with world Lin entrepreneurs at Koh Pich Convention and Exhibition Centre in Phnom Penh, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet raised some key factors that make Cambodia an attractive destination for investments.

“Cambodia offers peace and stability. Cambodia offers a peaceful and stable environment, the fundamental factors that allow investors to seek when deciding where to invest,” he underlined. “As you may see, you visit Cambodia today and you stay [for] a few days, maybe in Phnom Penh or in other places. Cambodia is very safe.”

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet took the opportunity to clarify some bad news about Cambodia. “I understand that some of you may have heard in the news recently about some security aspects of Cambodia that make a lot of people nervous. But please rest assured, Cambodia is safe and is stable and peaceful for you to conduct business. So, please trust Cambodia. We assure security and safety of all, including experts who live in Cambodia, investors, tourists who visit Cambodia, it is of utmost priority, just like Cambodians who live here. We provide security and stable environment for you all.”

Cambodia ranks as a top emerging market for foreign investment in 2024, according to fDi intelligence thanks to strong GDP growth, low inflation, and so on, he said, adding that Cambodian investment law is liberal with diverse, flexible and tailored incentives to investors. Cambodia offers 100 percent foreign ownership, there is no restriction on remittances of profits and capitals […].

Moreover, Samdech Thipadei Prime Minister stressed that Cambodia holds a strategic location and trade pact opportunities, therefore investing in Cambodia does not invest for the market of 17 million people, but opens opportunities to many other parts of the world because Cambodia has many agreements, including free trade agreements with ASEAN, Korea, China, RCEP, etc.

“Cambodia also has skilled workforce. Cambodia has young, dynamic, and English-speaking population. 60 percent of its population is under the age of 35. Cambodia has undertaken a comprehensive, free vocational training, tactical programme for 1.5 young million people. This ensures that we have the ability to provide businesses, especially overseas businesses that setting, looking to settle or open operation in Cambodia with the ability to have access to labour force ready to provide, to meet your need,” he said.

Expansion of infrastructure connectivity to integrate and connect Cambodia’s transport network and key economic corridors as well as Cambodia’s commitment to sustainable energy and digitisation were also mentioned by the Premier on the occasion. As of May 5, a total of 35,829 businesses with US$10.22 billion in capital have been registered through this platform.

This system has reduced procedures, time, and costs involved in business registration, making it easier for entrepreneurs to start and operate their businesses.

Starting a business in Cambodia is a relatively straightforward process, especially with the advent of online registration. This guide will walk you through the steps of registering your business online with the Ministry of Commerce (MoC).

Why Register Your Business?
To operate legally in Cambodia, it’s mandatory to register your business with the Ministry of Commerce (MoC). This process ensures compliance with local regulations and provides your business with a legal identity.

Online Registration Process
The MoC has streamlined the registration process, making it primarily online. You can now reserve a business name and complete the registration process entirely through their digital platform.

Types of Businesses and Registration Requirements

1. Sole Proprietorship

Steps:
Log in to the MoC’s online portal.
Select “Sole Proprietorships” and then “Incorporate a Sole Proprietorship.”
Provide general information, addresses, and contact details, as well as the owner’s information.
Documents:
Identity proof of the owner.
Proof of address.

2. Private Limited Company, Public Limited Company, or Foreign Company

Steps:
Log in to the MoC’s online portal.
Select “Companies” and choose the appropriate option (Private Limited Company, Public Limited Company, or Foreign Company).
Provide general information, addresses, contact details, director information, share and shareholder details.
Documents:
Identity proofs of directors and shareholders.
Proof of address.
Articles of Association.
Memorandum of Association.

3. Partnerships (General Partnership or Limited Partnership)

Steps:
Log in to the MoC’s online portal.
Select “Partnerships” and choose the appropriate option (General Partnership or Limited Partnership).
Provide general information, addresses, contact details, partner information, and manager information.
Documents:
Identity proofs of partners and managers.
Proof of address.
Partnership agreement.

Important Considerations
Time Limit: You have 15 days to complete the registration process after initiating it. Failure to do so may result in the application being removed from the system.
Fees: There are associated fees for registering a business. These fees vary depending on the type of business and other factors.
Supporting Documents: Ensure that all required documents are accurate, complete, and up-to-date.

Registering a business online in Cambodia is a convenient and efficient process. By following these steps and providing the necessary information, you can establish your business legally and start operating in the Cambodian market. The online registration system offers a streamlined approach, saving time and effort for entrepreneurs.

PHNOM PENH: Attention Cambodian businesses! The Honorary Consulate of the Kingdom of Cambodia, the Cambodia Chamber of Commerce, Representative Office in California, and ID Investors Association (IDI) are delighted to announce a prime opportunity to connect with potential US partners at the US-Cambodia Business Matchmaking Summit.

This 3-day event, held from September 18th to 20th, 2024, in Long Beach, California, is designed to foster new business relationships and propel Cambodian companies into the US market.

This year’s summit offers a dynamic platform for Cambodian businesses across various sectors to connect with pre-selected US counterparts through targeted matchmaking sessions, networking events, and workshops on navigating US business regulations and establishing partnerships.

The United States represents a vast and lucrative market for Cambodian businesses. The summit provides a direct line to US companies, opening doors for mutually beneficial partnerships and propelling Cambodian products and services onto the American stage.

Last year’s successful trade mission to Long Beach laid the groundwork for deeper US-Cambodia business ties. This year’s summit expands on that success by focusing on broader business matchmaking, fostering connections that can benefit a wider range of Cambodian companies.

This year, IDI (ID Investors Association) hit another level by reaching out to buyers to select Cambodian products to sell in the US market, and there are companies that have partnered with IDI to continue searching for markets for Cambodian products. IDI is also collaborating with the US side to apply for import licenses.

US Remains Top Destination for Cambodian Exports.

According to data released by the General Department of Customs and Excise (GDCE) earlier this month, Cambodia’s exports surged in the first half of 2024, reaching US$12.29 billion, a 12.6% increase compared to the same period last year. The United States remained the top destination for Cambodian exports.

The United States remained the top destination for Cambodian exports, accounting for US$4.4 billion. Vietnam and China followed closely behind with US$2 billion and US$814 million respectively.

This is your chance to connect with potential US partners and unlock new growth opportunities for your Cambodian business. For further details and swift registration, reach out to Mr. Van Ratana at 092 785 585 via Telegram or Phone Call. The application deadline is set for August 10th, 2024.

The post Another Opportunity to Export to America at a Matchmaking Summit Co-Hosted by IDI first appeared on Estatedia | Economy & Real Estate Media in Cambodia.

PHNOM PENH: Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice President of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), H.E. Sun Chanthol, announced plans for a “knock-on-door” mission to France before the end of this year. The goal is to attract more French investors to Cambodia.

The announcement came during a dinner reception held at the CDC headquarters on July 9th. The event honored the French delegation attending the 2nd France-Cambodia Business Forum.

H.E. Sun Chanthol expressed optimism that the three-day forum would lead to an increase in French investment in Cambodia.

H.E. Jacques Pellet, the French Ambassador, pledged his support in promoting and expanding direct investment from France to Cambodia. He acknowledged that current French investment remains limited.

The positive impact of existing French investment was highlighted, including companies like Vinci, Total, and Bred Bank. Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) were also recognized for their contributions in areas like job creation, skills development, and economic stability.

According to the Council for the Development of Cambodia, Cambodia saw $4.9 billion invested across 268 projects in 2023. The first half of 2024 is already showing promise with 190 projects valued at $3.2 billion.

Recently, at the France-Cambodia Business Forum, Prime Minister Hun Manet acknowledged the importance of France as a key trade partner and foreign investor. He pointed to the $515 million in bilateral trade last year and the $206 million achieved so far in 2024.

The post Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol to Visit France to Attract Investors first appeared on Estatedia | Economy & Real Estate Media in Cambodia.
