China Datang to invest $600 million in Cambodia’s energy sector

PHNOM PENH: Cambodian Prime , Hun Manet, met with Mr. Zuo Lei, Chairman of China Datang Co., Ltd., on October 17, 2023, on the sidelines of the third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in Beijing.

During the meeting, PM Hun Manet encouraged China Datang to invest more in Cambodia's energy sector and to focus its investment on new technologies that can further enhance efficiency and price competitiveness.

Mr. Zuo Lei expressed his company's commitment to increasing its investment capital to $600 million in and wind energy projects to contribute to the implementation of the Royal Government of Cambodia's Pentagon Strategy.

PM also had another meeting with Mr. Kang Hubiao, Chairman of the Genertec International Holding Co., Ltd., the parent company of China National Energy Engineering & Construction Co., Ltd. (CNEE).

PM Hun Manet expressed his support for the joint venture between Cambodia's Royal Group and CNEE in a hydropower project in Cambodia and hoped that CNEE would expand its investment to other areas in the Kingdom.

The $600 million investment is a significant boost to Cambodia's energy sector and will help to meet the country's growing demand for electricity. The investment will also create jobs and boost the Cambodian economy.
