Cambodia and China discussed top 6 major infrastructure projects

PHNOM PENH: Cambodia and China have discussed six major infrastructure projects in a courtesy call between the Deputy Prime Minister of Cambodia and the Economic and Trade Adviser of the .

On Wednesday morning, October 11, 2023, H.E. Sun Chanthol, First Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice President of , met with Ms. Zhong Jie, Economic and Trade Adviser at the Chinese Embassy in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

During the meeting, H.E. Deputy Prime Minister welcomed the investment cooperation between Cambodia and China and informed Ms. Zhong of some priority projects of the Royal Government of Cambodia.

The six top prior projects discussed were, the Funan Techo Canal, the Phnom Penh-Siem Reap-Poipet Expressway Project, the Phnom Penh-Sihankouk high-speed rail construction project, the Construction of a railway connecting the new Siem Reap International Airport, the Phnom Penh's Metro and The Fish and Rice Corridor.

His Excellency the Deputy Prime Minister discussed in depth the project “Funan Techo Canal” which he said would provide great benefits for Cambodia and its people, as well as for investors who invest in the project.

Ms. Zhong expressed her commitment to further expanding cooperation with Cambodia, especially in the search for potential industries that can help increase the size of the Cambodian economy in line with the strategy of the new Royal Government of Cambodia. This includes cooperation on the digital economy and on the projects that the Deputy Prime Minister informed her about.

The six projects discussed are all major infrastructure projects that have the potential to transform Cambodia's economy and bring significant benefits to both Cambodia and China.
