800 historic buildings remaining in Battambang

Battambang: Apart from its agricultural potential and attractive tourist province, Battambang province in the country's northwest has left many buildings and ancient houses as a national heritage site.

Battambang provincial governor Sok Lou recently stated at a conference on the five-year success of the provincial administration that the city of Battambang has over 800 historic buildings.

The city's traditional houses have become popular tourist destinations for national and international visitors, and the provincial government has worked hard to preserve them as a national heritage for future generations.

According to the governor, the orderly development of Battambang city necessitates public participation, as Battambang is one of three Cambodian cities chosen for the ASEAN Smart Cities Network.

According to a report released on Tuesday by the Ministry of Tourism, the number of foreign tourists visiting Cambodia in 2022 will increase by 1,059 percent to 2.28 million.

According to the ministry, the number of domestic tourists increased by 199 percent year on year to 13.93 million last year. According to the report, 1.88 million domestic foreign tourists visited the country last year, a 572 percent increase over the previous year.

Cambodia expects to welcome approximately 2 million international tourists in 2022, with the hope of returning to the pre-COVID-19 level of 7 million in 2026 or 2027.

Tourism is one of the four economic pillars in Cambodia. In 2019, the Kingdom welcomed 6.6 million international tourists, generating US$4.92 billion in revenue in the pre-pandemic era.
