PHNOM PENH: The Techo International Airport (TIA) was officially inaugurated this morning under the presidency of Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, and First Lady, Lok Chumteav Dr. Pich Chanmony Hun Manet.

“This is a new achievement reflecting Cambodia’s long-term development vision. TIA will serve as a driving force to attract more tourists and investors to Cambodia. We will open our horizons even wider,” Samdech Thipadei underlined.

H.E. Dr. Mao Havannall, Minister in Charge of the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation (SSCA), described the airport as an important bridge of solidarity and cooperation that connects Cambodia to the world, and a strong pillar supporting the country’s tourism industry and overall economic growth.

According to Lok Neak Oknha Pung Kheav Se, Chairman of the Cambodia Airport Investment Corporation (CAIC), a subsidiary of the Overseas Cambodian Investment Corporation (OCIC), the project cost a total of US$2.3 billion. It includes the construction of the main passenger terminal building (PTB), airfields, ancillary buildings, general aviation and permanent VVIP terminals, and other supporting infrastructure for airport operations.

Designed and built for the future, the airport will be developed in three phases, with passenger handling capacities of 13 million for Phase 1, 30 million for Phase 2, and 50 million for Phase 3, he said.

He also announced that a new airline, Etihad Airways, has started direct flights to TIA since Oct. 4, while Turkish Airlines will begin operations on Dec. 10, 2025.

He further noted that these new routes will enhance connectivity between Phnom Penh and major cities in the Middle East, Europe, and Africa. He expressed delight that Cathay Pacific, a major international carrier from Hong Kong, has chosen TIA as an alternative airport to park 13 of its aircraft during Typhoon Ragasa, a testament to international airlines’ trust and confidence in TIA’s world-class facilities.

Situated on more than 2,600 hectares of land spanning Prek Sleng commune in Kandal Stung district, Kandal province, and part of Bati district, Takeo province, the new airport lies approximately 20 kilometres from Phnom Penh. It commenced operations on Sept. 9, 2025.

Classified as a 4F-level international airport, the highest category in global aviation standards, TIA is capable of accommodating all types of aircraft, including the world’s largest passenger planes such as the Airbus A380 and Boeing 747.

The post Techo International Airport Officially Launched, Marking Cambodia’s National Pride first appeared on Estatedia | Economy & Real Estate Media in Cambodia.

PHNOM PENH: Cambodia has witnessed a surge in electric vehicle (EV) adoption in recent months, with the government actively promoting the shift towards cleaner transportation.

Prime Minister Hun Manet has expressed strong support for the expansion of the EV sector in Cambodia, highlighting its potential benefits. He emphasized that transitioning to electric vehicles can significantly improve energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions.

“By switching to electric vehicles, we can reduce energy consumption by up to five times compared to traditional fuel-powered vehicles,” said the Prime Minister. “Moreover, it will help us mitigate climate change by lowering carbon emissions in the transportation sector.”

In the first nine months of 2024, the country registered a staggering 1,644 electric vehicles, a significant increase from the 203 registered in the same period of 2023. This represents a 710% growth, with motorcycles leading the charge at a 368% increase.

“So far, Cambodia has registered 2,327 electric vehicles at the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, of which 790 BYD electric vehicles are at the top of the list, followed by 443 Toyota electric vehicles, 269 Tesla electric vehicles, and electric vehicles from other companies,” said Mr. Phan Rim, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Public Works and Transport.

To further accelerate the adoption of EVs, the Cambodian government has introduced the “National Policy on the Development of the Electric Vehicle Sector 2024-2030.” This policy aims to promote the use and development of the entire EV ecosystem, including charging infrastructure and related industries.

Chinese automaker BYD has expressed interest in establishing an EV manufacturing plant in Cambodia by 2025. This move could significantly boost the local EV industry and contribute to the country’s economic growth.

As of now, Cambodia has registered a total of 3,676 electric vehicles and 21 charging stations nationwide. With increasing government support and growing consumer interest, the country is poised to become a regional leader in electric mobility.

The post PM Supports EV Growth Amidst Surging Imports first appeared on Estatedia | Economy & Real Estate Media in Cambodia.

PHNOM PENH: Workers and employees in the garment, footwear and travel goods industry in Cambodia will receive US$208 as monthly minimum wage next year, according to Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet.

In a message on his social media networks this afternoon, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet said that H.E. Heng Sour, Minister of Labour and Vocational Training and Chairman of the National Council for Minimum Wage, had just reported to him that the minimum wage negotiations for 2025 were concluded with US$206, which won majority of votes, i.e. 46 out of 51.

However, the Premier has decided to add US$2 to the approved figure of US$206, therefore the monthly minimum wage for 2025 is US$208, an increase by US$4 compared to 2024.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet also reaffirmed the Royal Government’s continued attention to improving the living standards, careers, and well-being of people from all walks of life despite the difficult circumstances of the global economy.

The increase in the minimum wage for next year, no matter how small, is to alleviate some of the hardships of the workers and employees, he added.

“In addition to the wage increase, I would like to inform the workers and employees and the public that I will continue to urge the relevant ministries, institutions, authorities to monitor and put in place additional measures to determine the possibility of reducing the spending of workers and employees,” he underlined.

The new monthly minimum wage will take effect from Jan. 1, 2025, the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training said, stressing that besides wage, workers in the garment, footwear and travel goods sector will receive other fringe benefits for regular attendance, transport, rent and seniority bonus.

Garment, footwear and travel goods industry is the largest foreign exchange earner for Cambodia. The sector consists of roughly 1,077 factories and branches, employing approximately 800,000 workers, mostly female.

The 2024 monthly minimum wage is 2024, up from US$200 in 2023, US$194 in 2022, US$192 in 2021, US$190 in 2020, US$182 in 2019, and US$170 in 2018.

The Royal Government of Cambodia has set a policy to increase the minimum wage of workers and employees in the garment, footwear and travel goods industry every year.

The post Cambodia Raises Garment Workers’ Minimum Wage to US$208 in 2025 first appeared on Estatedia | Economy & Real Estate Media in Cambodia.

PHNOM PENH: The Sihanoukville Autonomous Port (PAS), Cambodia’s primary deep-sea port covering approximately 125 hectares, has significantly expanded its container handling capacity with the official inauguration of a new 253-meter-long terminal.

The ceremony was presided over by Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia, and H.E. Ueno Atsushi, Ambassador of Japan to Cambodia.

H.E. Peng Ponea, Minister of Public Works and Transport, stated that the construction of the additional container terminal began in May 2023 and was completed in 17 months at a total cost of approximately $37.5 million.

The project was funded in part by a $10 million concessional loan from the Government of Japan and $27.5 million from PAS’s budget and the Royal Government of Cambodia.

The new terminal, which has a depth of 11.5 meters and can handle 450,000 TEUs per year, will increase PAS’s total capacity to 1 million TEUs. This expansion will enable the port to accommodate larger vessels and meet growing demand for container shipping services.

Minister Ponea emphasized the importance of this project in enhancing Cambodia’s maritime competitiveness and attracting foreign investment. He noted that PAS has experienced significant growth in recent years, with cargo throughput increasing by 26.52% in the first seven months of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023.

The post Sihanoukville Autonomous Port (PAS) Expands Container Terminal Capacity first appeared on Estatedia | Economy & Real Estate Media in Cambodia.
