PHNOM PENH: Minister of Industry, Science, Technology & Innovation H.E. HEM Vanndy presided over here on Aug. 23 the official launch of RMA Cambodia’s latest electric vehicle (EV) models, the Chang An Deepal LO7 and SO7, a step forward in the Cambodia’s EV journey and technological innovation.

According to the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology & Innovation (MISTI), in his opening remarks, Minister Vanndy highlighted the growing trend of electric vehicles in global markets, driven by increasing consumer demand and regulatory mandates aimed at reducing CO2 emissions from vehicles.

“The introduction of electric vehicles will open up new opportunities for job creation and economic growth,” Minister Vanndy stated. He emphasised that the EV industry in Cambodia could become a catalyst for the transfer of technology, knowledge and know-hows, benefiting the broader economy.

Mr. Ngorn Saing, General Director of RMA Cambodia, spoke about the company’s evolving role in the automotive sector, highlighting its transition from merely importing vehicles to assembling them locally, and eventually aiming to produce vehicles for export.

He also shared the notable achievements of RMA Cambodia’s Ford assembly plant in Pursat province, which has provided over 4,000 jobs and sold more than 4,000 units of Ford Ranger and Ford Everest since 2022. This demonstrates local consumer confidence in Cambodian-assembled vehicles, he said.

Minister Vanndy commended RMA Cambodia’s leadership in launching the Chang An Deepal LO7 and Chang An Deepal SO7, aligning with the global shift toward EVs. He added that the development of the EV industry in Cambodia would provide diverse options for mobility, enhance connectivity, and increase efficiency across various sectors.

“I encourage RMA Cambodia to consider partnerships with local companies, especially SMEs for the supply of vehicle components, starting from simple items,” Minister Vanndy said. “Such initiatives would not only enhance the capacity of local businesses but also contribute to a more sustainable and competitive supply chain for the company.”

He also called for ongoing collaboration between RMA Cambodia and MISTI, particularly through the Institute of Standards of Cambodia, to ensure that vehicle safety standards meet ASEAN and international benchmarks. “MISTI welcomes investments across the entire production chain, whether in finished products, semi-finished components, or assembly plant operations. We are committed to offering essential support and services to the automotive industry, including electric vehicles,” he said.

According to RMA Cambodia, the Chang An Deepal LO7 provides a 620-kilometre range per charge, while the Chang An Deepal SO5 offers 610 kilometres. Both models are equipped with a robust electric powertrain, delivering a smooth acceleration with a 0-100 km/h time of around 4 seconds. They also come with advanced safety features and modern infotainment systems, catering to the needs of tech-savvy drivers. Additionally, both vehicles support fast charging, allowing for quick energy replenishment.

The launch of RMA Cambodia’s Chang An Deepal LO7 and SO7 signifies an advancement in Cambodia’s automotive industry and technological landscape, reflecting the nation’s commitment to green development through technological innovation.

The post Cambodia Embraces Electric Vehicle Future with Launch of RMA’s Chang An Deepal LO7 and SO7 first appeared on Estatedia | Economy & Real Estate Media in Cambodia.
