PHNOM PENH: Cambodia launched its “Milled Rice Market Expansion and Export Diversification Strategy 2025-2030” to boost its presence in the global rice trade.

The launch took place along with the 4th Mandate Annual General Meeting of the Cambodia Rice Federation (CRF), which also included the election of the organization’s new leadership.

The event, held at Sofitel Phnom Penh Phokeethra, was presided over by Minister of Commerce H.E. Mrs. Cham Nimul and Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries H.E. Dith Tina.

It brought together officials from various ministries, representatives from the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO), development partners, international chambers of commerce, and numerous industry associations.

In her address, Minister Cham Nimul praised the CRF’s role and emphasised the spirit of partnership among the Ministry of Commerce, the Ministry of Agriculture, FAO, and other stakeholders.

She highlighted the new strategy’s three core objectives: Protecting and strengthening Cambodia’s position in major fragrant rice markets worldwide; Increasing exports of premium rice to target growing middle-income populations, particularly in Asian markets; Diversifying markets by leveraging existing and future trade agreements, government-to-government (G2G) mechanisms, and global food security programmes.

H.E. Minister noted that in 2024, China accounted for nearly 30 percent of Cambodia’s total rice exports. This share is expected to grow in 2025, with a new Memorandum of Understanding with China targeting 500,000 tonnes of rice.

She underscored the private sector’s crucial role in implementing government policies and maximising the benefits of Cambodia’s participation in international trade frameworks.

As the technical custodian of the 2025–2030 strategy, the Ministry of Commerce will partner closely with the CRF.

The Minister also provided several key recommendations for the CRF and other stakeholders: Operate with transparency and ethics to build consumer trust in Cambodian rice; Enhance rice quality, ensuring high standards, safety, and proper packaging to protect the brand’s reputation; Provide buyers with reliable quality assurance for Cambodian rice brands; Strictly adhere to international standards and regulations regarding the use of substances in rice production; Collaborate with the Ministry of Commerce on market negotiations and new memoranda of understanding to expand access for Cambodian rice abroad.

The joint event marks a significant milestone for Cambodia’s rice sector, reinforcing the nation’s commitment to strengthening its global market position through a focus on sustainability, quality, and competitiveness.

The post Cambodia Unveils 2025–2030 Rice Export Strategy to Expand Global Markets first appeared on Estatedia | Economy & Real Estate Media in Cambodia.

Dith Tina, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, on a visit to rice millers in Kampong Speu province on Aug. 22.

According to the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation (MISTI), during the visit, the ministers were briefed on the operations of Apsara Rice and Primalis Corporation and toured their processing facilities, where they engaged in discussions with the companies to enhance Cambodia’s competitiveness in the global rice market.

H.E. Hem Vanndy commended the two rice millers for their adherence to production standards, adoption of technology and compliance with market regulations. He emphasised the importance of strengthening internal production capabilities in preparation for Cambodia’s upcoming graduation from Least Developed Country (LDC) status.

H.E. Minister also highlighted the tightening of market requirements, particularly regarding environmental safeguards, and encouraged the companies to adopt greener practices and embrace a circular economy to not only maximise their potential but also support local enterprises.

He added that MISTI has transformed the National Laboratory of Science, Technology and Innovation into a public administration institution to expand its capacity to test a wider range of parameters, including those for the rice and agro-processing sector.

MISTI, he assured, stands ready to offer additional public services that have also undergone reforms to better meet the needs of the private sector.

The post Three Ministers Visit Rice Millers in Kampong Speu Province first appeared on Estatedia | Economy & Real Estate Media in Cambodia.

PHNOM PENH: Cambodia’s Ministry of Commerce is urging entrepreneurs and producers to seize a golden opportunity: selling their products to a massive international audience through Alibaba.com, a leading global e-commerce platform. This move is expected to significantly boost Cambodia’s reach in international markets.

On May 27th, a workshop titled “Beyond Borders: Bringing Cambodian Products to the Global Market Through Alibaba.com” attracted over 350 local entrepreneurs. H.E. Mrs. Cham Nimul, the Minister of Commerce, addressed the workshop, emphasizing the vast potential of Alibaba’s platform. She explained how it allows Cambodian businesses to showcase their products and increase export sales.

Alibaba.com provides a platform to enter the giant Chinese market, initially through retail sales. As highlighted by Mr. Lor Vichet, Vice President of the Cambodia-Chinese Commerce Association (CCCA), this initial step allows businesses to test the waters and establish brand recognition for Cambodian products.

He added, this could pave the way for future wholesale opportunities. The platform grants businesses the opportunity to showcase their products to a global audience. Listing products online allows businesses to tap into new international markets, leading to a significant boost in sales.

The Ministry of Commerce and Alibaba signed a Memorandum of Understanding in October 2023. This collaboration aims to directly sell Cambodian products in China and ASEAN countries through the eWTP Platform, further promoting e-commerce in Cambodia.

This partnership aligns with Cambodia’s broader strategy to propel its digital economy forward. The Royal Government of Cambodia is actively investing in infrastructure development and promoting e-commerce adoption among both businesses and consumers.

While Cambodia’s e-commerce sector is still young, it’s experiencing rapid growth. The partnership with Alibaba is expected to accelerate this growth and solidify Cambodia’s position as a key player in the region’s e-commerce landscape.

PHNOM PENH- May 27, 2024 – The Association of Khmer International Investors (AKII) has called for a dedicated working meeting with the Ministry of Commerce (MOC) to further promote Cambodian product export and coordinate Cambodia’s investment sector.

This request comes after a talk between HE Cham Nimol, Minister of Commerce and AKII President Dr. By Sokbundith on the sidelines of The Opening Ceremony of the Workshop on “Beyond Borders: Bringing Cambodian Products to Global Market through Alibaba.com” on Monday. Dr. Sokbundith also presented a comprehensive outlining various investment-related topics to the Minister.

During their exchange, Dr. Sokbundith requested the Minister’s support in facilitating product exports for AKII members, a key aspect of economic growth for Cambodian businesses.

The Minister acknowledged Dr. Sokbundith’s dedication and confirmed a follow-up meeting between the MOC and AKII. This working session will delve deeper into strategies to enhance Cambodia’s trade and investment climate.

Established in 2019 to foster collaboration and progress to fully promote the investment to Cambodia, AKII prioritizes three key goals:

Promoting collaboration: AKII aims to strengthen cooperation among members, investors, and partners for mutual success.

Supporting development: The association is committed to contributing to Cambodia’s social and economic progress, aligning with government initiatives.

Attracting investment: AKII actively seeks high-quality, efficient investments from both local and foreign sources to propel Cambodia’s economic growth.

This news signifies a positive step towards stronger collaboration between the Cambodian government and the private sector. The upcoming working meeting is expected to yield concrete strategies for attracting foreign investment and bolstering Cambodia’s economic potential.

The post AKII Seeks MOC’s Support to Boost Cambodia Export and Investment Climate first appeared on Estatedia | Economy & Real Estate Media in Cambodia.

The remarks were made by H.E. Mrs. Cham Nimul, Minister of Commerce and Chair of the National Committee for Intellectual Property, while she and H.E. Hem Vanndy, Minister of Industry, Science, Technology & Innovation, were presiding over the World Intellectual Property Day 2024, at Hyatt Regency Phnom Penh on April 30.

The commerce minister also requested all stakeholders to work together to prevent intellectual property infringement, which is an obstacle to innovation, and strongly hoped that the Intellectual Property Day 2024 will continue to cultivate a common spirit in promoting awareness raising campaigns, which is closely linked to the people’s lives and benefits all areas of society.

For his part, H.E. Hem Vanndy spoke highly of the World Intellectual Property Day, saying that it serves as an important platform to raise awareness about intellectual property, technological advancement and innovation among the public, especially innovators, researchers, and students.

At the end of the celebration, H.E. Mrs. Cham Nimul and H.E. Hem Vanndy presided over the launching ceremony of five intellectual property-related projects, including: 1) Inclusive Growth Project: Promoting Cambodian Entrepreneurs with Disabilities through Intellectual Property Education and Business Branding, (2) Project for Skill-based Learning and Mentoring for Design School, (3) Launch of IP Web Application, (4) Launch of Distance Learning Platform on Intellectual Property, and (5) Launch of Intellectual Property Analysis Programme for Business.

This year’s celebration of the World Intellectual Property Day 2024 was held under the theme “IP and SDGs: Building our common future with innovation and creativity.”

PHNOM PENH: Five automobile manufacturers have been reportedly in the process of building production facilities in Cambodia, according to the Ministry of Commerce.

The five car companies, including HGB Motors Assembly, EM Automotive, GTV Motor, Toyota, and China Matrix Technology, are structuring their production in preparation for opening their assembly plants in Cambodia H.E. Mrs. Cham Nimul, Minister of Commerce, said in the 1st Auto Show 2024 held here last Saturday.

Toyota will officially launch the operation of its assembly factory located in the Royal Group Phnom Penh Special Economic Zone this week.

“The Auto Show not only showcases the innovations and modernity of automobiles, but also reflects the rapid growth of the automotive sector in the fast-growing market in Cambodia,” she said.

The minister encouraged businesses and investment partners to consider expanding their business ventures and establishing production bases in Cambodia to benefit from ASEAN Plus trade agreements, trade preferences, national trade and investment facilitation framework; as well as investing in car factories, especially EVs, to supply the domestic market and for export.

The new factories will bring the total vehicle assembly plants in Cambodia to nine. Other operational vehicle assembly factories include Hyundai in Koh Kong province, SsangYong in Svay Rieng province, FORD in Pursat province, and Isuzu in Kampong Speu province.

The post Cambodia to have five more vehicle assembly factories first appeared on Estatedia | Economy & Real Estate Media in Cambodia.

These sectors, which include agriculture and agro-processing, logistics, e-commerce, and digital technology, are considered crucial for Cambodia’s economic development by the Royal Government.

Minister of Commerce H.E. Ms. Cham Nimul made the invitation during a meeting with Senator the Hon Tim Ayres, Assistant Minister for Trade and Assistant Minister for Manufacturing of Australia, in Melbourne on March 5th. The meeting took place while Ms. Cham Nimul was accompanying Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Sen to the ASEAN-Australia Special Summit celebrating the 50th anniversary of ASEAN-Australia Dialogue Relations.

The discussions between the two sides focused on strengthening economic ties and cooperation between Cambodia and Australia. Ms. Cham Nimul emphasized the significant role private sectors can play in Cambodia’s economic growth, particularly in job creation and diversifying the Kingdom’s trade and industry.

Both parties committed to further strengthening and promoting existing business activities and bilateral trade. They also highlighted the importance of implementing agreements like the ASEAN-Australia-New Zealand Free Trade Area (AANZFTA) and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP).

Bilateral trade between Cambodia and Australia amounted to $502 million in 2023, a slight decrease of 4.12% compared to 2022. The Kingdom’s exports stood at $371 million, down by 2.1%, while imports from Australia were valued at $131 million, a decrease of 9.4%, as per the GDCE.

The post Minister Cham Nimol encourages Australian investment in Cambodia’s high-value-added sectors first appeared on Estatedia | Economy & Real Estate Media in Cambodia.
