PHNOM PENH: The $10.5 million coastal road connecting Kep Beach to Angkor Beach is nearing completion, with 80% of the project now complete.

Kep Province Governor Dr. Som Piseth announced last week that the 11-kilometer coastal road connecting Koh Tonsay to Angkol Beach is 80% complete.

“The coastal road will be a key tourist artery, especially as more tourists come to Kep,” he said. “It will also help to reduce congestion in the Kep Beach resort area.”

Governor Piseth urged the construction company to speed up the work so that the road is open to traffic before the 10th Sea Festival, which Kep will host in early December 2023.

The construction of a tourism port on Koh Tonsay Island, about 4 kilometers offshore from Kep province, is also progressing well, with almost 50% of the project now complete.

The port is expected to be finished in late 2023 and will cost about US$1.6 million under a loan from the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

The construction of Koh Tonsay Tourism Port aims to expand tourism and the economic potential of Kep province. The port will make it easier for tourists to visit Koh Tonsay Island, a popular destination for swimming, snorkeling, and diving.

Both the coastal road and tourism port projects are part of the ADB’s Phase II of the Tourism Sub-project for Environmental Growth of the Greater Mekong Subregion. These projects are expected to have a significant positive impact on the tourism industry in Kep province and help to create jobs and boost the local economy.

The post ADB-Funded two projects nearing completion to boost tourism in Kep first appeared on Estatedia | Economy & Real Estate Media in Cambodia.

PHNOM PENH: On January 18, 2023, the Secretary of State for Civil Aviation and Royal Group Koh Rong Development Co, Ltd signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the Acceptance of the Master Plan for a new International Ecotourism Airport Construction Project.

A new airport is being built on Koh Rong in the Koh Rong Development Zone, Koh Rong City, Sihanoukville Province. A press release published the same day stated that the project would cost around $300 million and would take 5 years to complete.

Dr. Mao Havannal, Minister in Charge of the Secretariat of State for Civil Aviation, presided over the signing ceremony at the Cambodiana Hotel in Phnom Penh, which was also attended by representatives from relevant departments and officials.

The Cambodian government awarded a concessional contract to the Royal Group, one of the country’s largest investment firms, to develop the island in 2008. The firm has agreed to build an airport on Koh Rong Island as part of the concessional contract.

Koh Rong is Cambodia’s second-largest island and is known for its tranquil beauty. The island is often described by visitors as an “island paradise,” with pristine white sandy beaches, warm crystal-clear ocean waters, and a hot tropical climate.

During a visit to the project on June 14, Cambodian Civil Aviation Minister Mao Havannal stated that building has been ongoing for more than two years, despite the COVID-19 crisis. This international airport is still working on the five-star and modern international airport layout, which is currently more than 33% complete.

According to him, the airport for landing 4F large aircraft will be completed in 2024 and operational in early 2025. The Techo Takhmao International Airport is now being built on an area of roughly 2,600 hectares in Kandal Province, near Takeo Province, and around 20 kilometers from Phnom Penh.
