PHNOM PENH: As of October 2023, Cambodia exported 11,403 tonnes of fresh longan to China, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) pointed out in a report.

MAFF's Spokeswoman H.E Ms. Im Rachna said on Oct. 27 that 97 plantations and exporting firms have been registered with the ministry and 12 of them have been verified the sanitary and phytosanitary standards.

She added that the ministry is currently supporting farmers by strengthening the cultivation of Pailin longan to ensure the quality required by the markets and by promoting the domestic processing of the fruit to supply the local market and for export.

From October to December 2022, Cambodia exported 2,942 tonnes of fresh longan to China.

Longan is Cambodia's third fresh fruit to gain official access to the Chinese market directly after banana and mango.

According to the agriculture ministry, Cambodia has more than 18,000 hectares of longan trees, yielding more than 131,000 tonnes of fresh longan annually.
