PHNOM PENH: Siem Reap province is poised to make this September an unforgettable month for both domestic and international visitors. With a vibrant lineup of events and a surge in tourist arrivals, the province is positioning itself as a must-visit destination.

Siem Reap Gears Up for a September Festivity

As announced by Deputy Governor Ngov Sengkak this week, Siem Reap will host three major events in September. The Gumball 3000 Rally, a high-profile international car rally, will take place from September 16 to 17.

Following that, visitors can witness the Equinox Phenomenon at Angkor Wat from September 21 to 23. To cap off the month, Siem Reap will celebrate World Tourism Day on September 27.

To further attract tourists, the provincial authority and private sector are collaborating to offer special discounts and promotions during September.

Siem Reap-Angkor International Airport Expects Record-Breaking Tourist Arrivals

Siem Reap’s tourism boom is also reflected in the growing number of visitors arriving at the Siem Reap-Angkor International Airport.

The airport has already welcomed approximately 900,000 tourists since its operation began last year, and it is projected to reach 1.5 million visitors by the end of 2024.

Angkor International Airport Investment (Cambodia) Co., Ltd. (AIAI) chairman Lu Wei expressed optimism about the airport’s continued growth and announced plans for future investments in renewable energy.

AIAI is exploring opportunities to develop a special energy zone, focusing on solar power, biomass, wind power, and energy storage.

Siem Reap has also launched a tourism development plan for 2025-2028 to upgrade tourism destinations, including the Phnom Kulen National Park, the Banteay Srey area, heritage areas under the management of the APSARA National Authority, Siem Reap urban areas, and Tonle Sap Lake at the province, to attract visitors.
