Siem Reap new international airport now over 30% completion

: The development of the Siem Reap new international is on schedule to be completed in March 2023, with more than 30 percent of the work completed as of May 2022.

According to Mr. Sin ChanSerey Vutha, Undersecretary of State and Spokesman for the Secretary of State for Civil Aviation, the project will be operational in October or November 2023, following 6 months for the application for safety certification and testing of the complete airport system.

However, he stated that there are certain obstacles to the development of the Siem Reap new international airport project, such as the COVID-19 infection, which causes some equipment to be expensive, transportation expenses to rise, and specialists or engineers to find it difficult to travel to Cambodia.

He anticipates the new Siem Reap International Airport, which is set to open by the end of 2023, will play a significant role in growing Cambodia's economy and tourism.

The new Siem Reap International Airport, a symbol of Cambodian-Chinese cooperation, is located in Tayek Commune, Sot Nikum District, Siem Reap Province, more than 50 kilometers from Siem Reap and around 40 kilometers from Angkor Wat, and was built by Angkor International Airport Investment Cambodia (AIAI), which is projected to be finished in March 2023 and has a total construction time of 36 months from the date of opening in mid-March 2020.

New Siem Reap International Airport is a four-engine international airport with a 3,600-meter runway capable of landing all sorts of aircraft and outfitted with the latest technology for passenger safety and security.

According to real needs, the airport has a capacity of 7 million passengers per year, which will be increased to 10 million in the second phase and 20 million in the third phase.

The new Siem Reap International Airport is yet another major accomplishment that will greatly contribute to Cambodia's economic development in the future, particularly for the benefit of the people in the surrounding area.
