Siem Reap Gears Up for Gumball 3000: A Global Tourism Boost

PHNOM PENH: In a preparatory meeting held on September 12, officials from Siem Reap province and Ministry of Tourism discussed strategies to capitalize on the upcoming Gumball 3000 Rally. The event is expected to significantly boost tourism in the region and promote Cambodia’s iconic landmarks on a global scale.

Deputy Governor Ngov Sengkak expressed optimism about the rally’s potential to promote Cambodia’s tourism destinations worldwide. He highlighted the sports sector’s role in attracting tourists, especially to Siem Reap, a renowned historical heritage region.

“The Gumball 3000 Rally, with its world-breaking record, will undoubtedly put Cambodia on the global tourism map. It’s a fantastic opportunity to showcase our rich cultural heritage and vibrant tourism offerings,” said Deputy Governor Ngov Sengkak.

H.E. Kuch Panhasa, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Tourism also emphasized the significance of the Gumball 3000 Rally in promoting Cambodia’s Siem Reap Angkor Archaeological Park and attracting more visitors.

The rally will serve as a powerful platform to showcase the beauty and historical significance of our province’s iconic landmarks. By creating a global buzz, event aims to significantly boost tourism in Siem Reap and align with the ‘Visit Siem Reap 2024’ campaign.

The Gumball 3000 Rally is expected to feature the world’s largest luxury car show, including supercars, hypercars, and sportscars, aiming to break the Guinness World Record in front of the Angkor Wat Temple and at the complex of Preah Reach Damnak Park. Taking place from Sept. 15 to 17, the event is expected to attract the participation of famous athletes from 40 countries.

In addition to the rally, the Siem Reap-Angkor International Airport has already welcomed approximately 900,000 tourists since its operation began last year, and it is projected to reach 1.5 million visitors by the end of 2024.

The province has also launched a tourism development plan for 2025-2028 to upgrade tourism destinations, including the Phnom Kulen National Park, the Banteay Srey area, heritage areas under the management of the APSARA National Authority, Siem Reap urban areas, and Tonle Sap Lake.
