Kuwait interests in Cambodian expressway projects

PHNOM PENH: Mohamad S SH S Alhajri, the newly appointed Ambassador of the State of Kuwait to the Kingdom of Cambodia, expressed his intention to participate in the expressway projects in Cambodia to promote better bilateral cooperation, particularly in trade and investment.

The expression of interest in the expressway project comes after the Cambodian government launched a project to build an expressway connecting Phnom Penh to several key provinces to improve Cambodia’s transportation sector more effectively.

Mr. Mohamad S SH S Alhajri expressed his willingness to strengthen cooperation in trade, and investment, particularly in the field of energy supply (Fuel), highway construction, and soft loans in a meeting with Mr. Kem Sithon, Permanent Secretary of State of the Ministry of Commerce on November 30, 2022.

As of October 2022, the Cambodia-Kuwait bilateral trade volume was approximately US $ 64,000 on critical commodities such as garments and textiles, tobacco, travel products, machinery and electrical appliances, polymers of ethylene, glass and glass objects, and so on.

Cambodia has recently officially launched several Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressways, and the Ministry is also negotiating the construction of the Phnom Penh-Bavit Expressway, which will cost nearly $1 billion.
