PHNOM PENH: The Kampot Provincial Tourism Port construction project, according to the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, is on track to be completed on June 30, 2022, with a current completion rate of 93.41 percent.

On March 29, 2022, Senior Minister Sun Chanthol, Minister of Public Works and Transport, announced that the project to build the international tourism port in Kampot province, which is located in Teuk Chhou district, is currently under construction. The Asian Development Bank is funding the 4-hectare, 4.5-meter-deep site with around $10 million.

The 300-meter-long port can accommodate 300 to 400 passengers. The building progress has reached 93.41 percent as of March 22, 2022, and is expected to be finished by June 30, 2022.

Once completed, this international tourist port will serve as an important gateway for national and international tourists traveling by water, particularly those traveling from Thailand and Vietnam to Cambodia as a passenger port rather than a cargo port.

Furthermore, the port contributes to the growth of tourism in Kampot by creating jobs, raising income, and improving people’s living conditions. The port is part of a programme to build tourism infrastructure in the Greater Mekong Subregion for long-term growth.

The port also serves as a major international seaport, linking tourists to the southern islands and connecting Cambodia’s Kampot region to the rest of the globe.
