PHNOM PENH: According to data from Cambodia’s General Department of Customs and Excise recently, trade with the international markets rose to more than $52 billion in 2022, a 9.2% increase over the same period in 2021, which totaled 48 billion US dollars.
Cambodia exported goods worth $22.482 billion from January to December 2022, a 16.4% increase over the same period in 2021, when it shipped goods worth $19.308 billion. Meanwhile, Cambodia imported goods worth $29.941 billion, an increase of 4.3%, bringing the total trade volume between Cambodia and international markets to $52.424 billion, an increase of 9.2%.
Cambodia exports more than $ 9 billion to the United States, while Vietnam ranks second, with Cambodia exporting more than $ 2 billion to China and other major export partners. Cambodia’s main import trading partners include China, Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore, Switzerland, the United States, the European Union, Vietnam, Japan, Germany, Canada, and Taiwan for precious jewelry, fuel, building materials, electronics, vehicles, medicines and medical equipment, and groceries.
According to the same report, Cambodia’s main exports are garments, footwear, travel products, agricultural products, and non-garment industrial products such as electronics, electrical equipment, car parts, bicycles, furniture, plastics, and agricultural products like rice, rubber, cassava, bananas, and mangoes.
In 2022, Cambodia exported more than $ 9 billion in garments, nearly $ 2 billion in machinery and equipment, an increase of 84.8%, more than $ 1.2 billion in grain, a decrease of 3.7%, and footwear worth $1.7 billion, an increase of 24.8%.
