Cambodia’s Agricultural Sector Sees 27% Export Growth, Billions in Revenue

PHNOM PENH: Cambodia’s agricultural exports surged by 27.66% in the first six months of 2025, reaching a total volume of over 7.8 million tonnes. This impressive growth generated more than US$2.87 billion in revenue from crop products, according to a report from the General Department of Agriculture, part of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF).

The export volume comprised approximately 4.2 million tonnes of non-rice agricultural products, 3.1 million tonnes of paddy rice, and 380,000 tonnes of milled rice.

In terms of revenue breakdown, non-rice products were the largest contributor, bringing in over US$1.926 billion. Paddy rice generated over US$638 million, and milled rice accounted for more than US$307 million.

The primary destinations for Cambodia’s agricultural exports were China, Vietnam, and Thailand.

H.E. Khim Finan, Undersecretary of State and Spokesperson for the MAFF, highlighted that this success is largely due to a shift towards official export channels, moving away from previous informal routes. He stated that these results demonstrate the “success of opening new markets and boosting competitiveness,” which has enabled Cambodian agricultural products to meet export-quality standards.

To ensure sustainable growth, the Royal Government of Cambodia has implemented a new strategic policy aimed at transforming the agricultural sector from subsistence-based farming to commercial farming. The core objective of this policy is to increase farmers’ incomes through the production of value-added products.

As part of this initiative, hundreds of agricultural officials have been deployed nationwide to communes. These officials are responsible for providing technical support to farmers, establishing agricultural cooperatives, strengthening production chains, and advising on cost reduction strategies.
