Cambodia to open new international border with Vietnam

PHNOM PENH: A workshop on planning, construction, infrastructure, and building construction was organized by government experts at the Trapeang Sre international border crossing on the border.

Mr. Chheang Pich, Director General of the General Department of Logistics, Ministry of Public Works and Transport, presided over the workshop. Mr. Yoo Han-Jun attended the event, as a Senior Advisor, a Representative of the Republic of Korea's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport, and another fifty project experts.

The goal of this workshop is to present the Establishment of a Comprehensive Plan for a Cross-Border Checkpoint Facility at Cambodia's International Border Trapeang Srae, which is located in Kratie Province, , within the framework of the Republic of Korea's Official Development Assistance (ODA), which will take approximately 24 months to study the feasibility from August 2022 to June 2024.

The project focuses on developing infrastructure to serve the Trapeang Sre International Border Gate, such as the Immigration Office, Port Authority, Tourist Building, Power Plant, Dormitory, and container yard.

The Cambodian and Korean sides expressed their firm belief that this project will help to increase trade volume along the Cambodia-Vietnam border, particularly at the Trapeang Sre international gate, improve transportation cost competitiveness, and promote logistics modernization. Cambodia's economic development goal is to become a regional transportation hub.
