Cambodia set to launch Toyota assembly plant next year

PHNOM PENH: According to AKP, the Toyota assembly plant at Phnom Penh Special Economic Zone will be inaugurated in 2024.

The information was shared by Japanese Ambassador to H.E. Ueno Atsushi while paying a courtesy call on Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo , President of the Supreme Privy Council to His Majesty the King and President of the Cambodian People's Party (CPP), at the January 7 Palace in Phnom Penh this afternoon.

According to the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), invested by Toyota Tsusho Manufacturing (Cambodia) Co. Ltd. with a total investment capital of $36.7 million. The car assembly plant would generate 150 job opportunities for the locals and located in the Phnom Penh Special Economic Zone (PPSEZ).

Besides Toyota, Cambodia has a Hyundai assembly plant in Koh Kong province, a Ford assembly plant in Pursat province, and so on.

Japanese companies regularly learned opportunities about Cambodia from a variety of industries, including banking, construction and real estate, insurance, manufacturing, and others.

According to the data from the CDC, investment capital in automotive assembly and components manufacturing from 2020 to 2022 was $1.38 billion. Automotive components manufacturers and vehicle assemblers have been growing in Cambodia.
