PHNOM PENH: In a bid to diversify its economic landscape and attract focused investments, the Cambodian government is preparing to roll out two new types of special economic zones (SEZs).
This strategic move was announced by Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, Cambodian Prime Minister at the Special Programme to Promote Investment in Preah Sihanouk Province 2024 launch ceremony, held in Sihanoukville today.
PM Hun Manet disclosed plans for two specialized SEZs currently in the policy formulation stage. One zone will concentrate on green technology, industry, and digital development, while the other will be customized for a specific investor.
“Now, we have many SEZs, but we have to diversify our potential for our economic growth,” he underlined.
Cambodia has some 50 SEZs, most of which are located along the border provinces with neighboring nations, especially Thailand and Vietnam.
