Cambodia pins high hope on Funan Techo Canal to boost trade and economy

PHNOM PENH: The Royal Government of Cambodia has pinned high hopes on the mega waterway infrastructure investment connecting the to a coastal port for efficient goods shipment.

Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet highlighted in a get-together with garment workers in Kampong Cham province this morning that the historic canal will contribute immensely to Cambodia's trade and growth.

“The Funan Techo Canal project will increase the capacity and efficiency of transportation from the provinces along the Tonle Sap Lake and Mekong River to the sea and will eventually promote the livelihoods of the people along the river,” said the Prime Minister.

The “Funan Techo Canal” project was approved at the 6th Plenary Session of the National Assembly on May 19, 2023.

Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice President of the Council for the Development of Cambodia, Chanthol, signed this month an agreement with representatives of the China Bridge and Road Corporation to start the construction of the canal next year.
