Cambodia meets with China telecom construction company on infrastructure projects

PHNOM PENH: Cambodia's former Prime Minister, Samdech Techo Hun Sen, met with a delegation from China Telecom Construction Company (CCCC) in March 2024. The delegation was led by Mr. Chen Zhong, a member of CCCC's senior management. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 2024 Boao Forum in Hainan Province, China.

CCCC, the parent company of China Road and Bridge Corporation, is currently involved in several major infrastructure projects in Cambodia. These include the completed Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway, the under-construction Phnom Penh-Bavet Expressway, and feasibility studies for the Phnom Penh-Siem Reap Expressway and the Funan Techo Canal.

During the meeting, Mr. Chen briefed Samdech Techo Hun Sen on the progress of these projects. He emphasized the importance of the Funan Techo Canal for Cambodia, and Samdech Techo Hun Sen concurred. Mr. Chen pledged CCCC's commitment to realizing the project according to the recommendations of both Samdech Techo Hun Sen and the current Prime Minister, Hun Manet.

The discussion also covered road projects. CCCC has completed studies for two roads: National Road 50C connecting Kampong Thom and Kampong Chhnang, and a 20-kilometer stretch of from to Veal Rinh. Mr. Chen requested Samdech Techo Hun Sen's support in encouraging Chinese partners to contribute funding for the construction of these roads, given CCCC's past maintenance work on them.
