Cambodia Gears Up for Francophone Summit, Eyes Boost in Investment and Tourism

PHNOM PENH-June 04, 2024: Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet recently met with Mr. Kelvin Mo, President of the Montreal's Cambodia Chamber of Commerce in Canada. During the meeting, Mr. Mo highlighted the potential for Cambodia to attract more investment and tourism from French-speaking countries when it hosts the 20th Francophone Summit in 2026.

Mr. Mo's visit also aimed to explore investment opportunities in Cambodia and build connections between Cambodian and Canadian businesses. Prime Minister Hun Manet welcomed this initiative and emphasized the role of the Montreal Chamber's representative office in fostering trade and investment ties between the two countries.

The Prime Minister noted the growing network of Cambodian Chamber of Commerce offices established abroad. These offices serve as bridges, facilitating trade, investment, and people-to-people connections between Cambodia and other nations. He expressed his hope that the Montreal office would continue to play a key role in promoting Cambodia's trade, tourism, and investment potential in Canada.

Prime Minister Hun Manet also outlined two key tasks for the Montreal office: promoting Cambodia's trade, tourism, and investment opportunities, and supporting the Cambodian government's efforts to increase trade with Canada, including facilitating negotiations and exports.

This meeting comes as Cambodia seeks to strengthen its economic ties with Canada, a significant trade partner. With bilateral trade exceeding $1.5 billion in 2023, Canadian businesses are encouraged to explore the investment opportunities Cambodia offers, particularly its access to various markets like ASEAN, , Japan, and more.

Additionally, as reported earlier, President of the Cambodian Chamber of Commerce (CCC) , during his recent meeting with Mr. Mo Kevin, President of the CCC Representative Office in Montreal, encouraged Canadian businesses to explore investment opportunities in Cambodia. He highlighted the country's access to a wide range of markets.

Cambodia secured the opportunity to host the Francophonie summit in 2026. The country will welcoming leaders, delegates, and participants from across the Francophonie community, celebrating the diverse tapestry of cultures, languages, and traditions that unite these nations.
