Cambodia collects $1.9 billion in taxes in first quarter

PHNOM PEH: The Cambodian government made $1,908 billion in revenue from tax and customs in the first quarter of 2023, up 2.5 percent compared to the same period last year, an official report showed last week.

The General Department of Taxation () earned $1,343.9 million as tax revenue in the first three months of this year, representing 39 percent of the yearly budget plan, read the report.

On the other hand, the General Department of Customs and Excise () has collected $564.1 million as customs income or 20.5 percent of the target set for the entire year.

The country has two institutions responsible for collecting taxes. One is the GDT, which focuses on interior taxes such as income tax, salary tax, value-added tax, and property tax, and the other is the GDCE, which collects taxes on goods entering and leaving the country.
