Cambodia and Korea commit to continue supporting and cooperating

PHNOM PENH: The Republic of Korea (RoK) will continue supporting and cooperating with Cambodia, affirmed H.E. Park Jung-Wook, newly appointed Ambassador of RoK to Cambodia, during his courtesy call upon H.E. PRAK Sokhonn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, at the ministry on Feb. 16.

According to a press release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation issued last night, the new Korean diplomat also found pleasure in his assignment in the Kingdom with its wonderful history and cultural heritage and assured his firm commitment to further promote and enhance the thriving multi-faceted cooperation between the two countries.

The Deputy Prime Minister recalled with satisfaction that 2022 was an excellent and meaningful year in the two countries’ bilateral relationship thanks to the rich exchange of high-level visits. He noted with contentment the new envoy’s considerable expertise and experience in economics and trade, which would further pave the way for robust collaboration between the two countries, particularly in the context of the entry into force of the Free Trade Agreement between the Kingdom of Cambodia and the Republic of Korea as well as the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP).

Both sides exchanged views on means and approaches to further elevate the wide-ranging bilateral partnership in the sectors of trade and economy, health, labor supply, development cooperation, military, human development, justice, and people-to-people link.

The Deputy Prime Minister appreciated the RoK’s commitment and assistance in support of Cambodia’s socio-economic development with the Cambodia-ROK Friendship Bridge project as the most recent example of that support. He also briefed Ambassador Park about the economic diplomacy strategy launched by Cambodia’s Foreign Ministry in 2021.

Finally, Deputy Prime Minister PRAK Sokhonn and Ambassador Park Jung-Wook discussed cooperation on issues of common interest within multilateral fora.
