Cambodia and China push the completion of the new Siem Reap airport in early 2023

PHNOM PENH: The technical team for the new International Airport and Yunnan Investment Group met and discussed scrambling up construction and completing it by March 2023 before officially opening in October 2023.

Mr. Tek Reth Samrech, Delegate to the Prime Minister and Chairman of the Orientation Committee for the Construction of Siem Reap International Airport, and a high-level delegation from Yunnan Investment Group met on September 29, 2022.

Yunnan Investment, the company in charge of building the new Siem Reap International Airport (AIAI), is led by Vice President Liu Mingling, who also serves as CEO.

The Royal Government of Cambodia, represented by Samdech Vibol Panha Sok An, and AIAI signed the project in Phnom Penh in October 2016, under the chairmanship of Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of Cambodia, and Xi Jinping, President of the People's Republic of China.

During the site inspection, Samdech Techo specifically mentioned the Siem Reap International Airport as a “North Star” project to promote tourism and economic growth in Siem Reap and Cambodia.

In April 2022, construction will begin. When the project is completed, the airport can accommodate large aircraft landings, conveying more tourists from around the world to the country.
