Located in the northwest Siem Reap province and listed as a World Heritage Site by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) in 1992, the Angkor Archaeological Park is the most popular tourism destination in the Kingdom.

Covering an area of 401 square kilometers, the Angkor site contains the magnificent remains of the different capitals of the Khmer Empire from the 9th to the 15th centuries, and it consists of important temples such as the Angkor Wat, Bayon, Chau Say Tevoda, and Takeo, among others.

The new Siem Reap Angkor International Airport (SAI) will play an important role in boosting foreign arrivals to the province, the cultural tourism hub of Cambodia, said Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei , Prime Minister of Cambodia.

“The airport is an important asset for the tourism sector in Siem Reap province, a major tourism destination in Cambodia,” he said at the airport's official inauguration ceremony, held on Nov. 16.

Tourism is one of the four major pillars supporting Cambodia's economy. In 2022, Cambodia recorded 2.2 million international visitors, an 11 percent increase from the previous year.
