$78M national road no. 48 project nearing one-third completion mark

PHNOM PENH: The Ministry of Public Works and Transport recently assessed the progress and technical aspects of the No. 48 construction project, which involves the ILSUNG & HANIL Joint Venture and KCI & KECC Joint Venture's technical team.

As of June 22, the project has been completed by 31.1%, indicating that it is moving forward, albeit slower than planned due to certain factors such as variation orders, geography, and weather-related conditions.

The construction company has formulated three high-priority plans. First, increase work teams from 03 to 08, second focusing on building components instead of constructing road foundations during rainy seasons, and third stockpile materials for the upcoming dry season to pave the rubber layer which represents 30% of total work.

The groundbreaking ceremony on January 3, 2022, under the high presidency of Samdech Techo Prime Minister, signified the start of construction for this 148-kilometer road, extending from the intersection of National Road No. 4, km 141 + 750 (Chamkar Luong) to Koh Kong Province's Khemarak Phoumin City.

The project, which involves building a 7 cm-thick asphalt concrete road and a 25 cm-thick reinforced concrete road at the junction, represents a cost of over $78 million.
