$267 million third ring road to be inaugurated after delay

PHNOM PENH: The construction of the Third Ring Road in Phnom Penh has been completed 100%, and the road is scheduled to be officially inaugurated in early August 2023.

The Third Ring Road is an important strategic road for the Royal Government of Cambodia. It will help to ease traffic congestion in Phnom Penh and facilitate the transport of goods by connecting several major national roads. The road is 52.983 kilometers long, 22 meters wide, and has four lanes.

The construction of the Third Ring Road was funded by a concessional loan from the Export-Import Bank of China. The loan agreement was signed on July 10, 2018, and the construction site was opened on January 14, 2019.

The Third Ring Road is an important part of the government’s plan to develop Phnom Penh into a regional logistics and economic hub. The road will connect Phnom Penh to several major highways, including the ASEAN Highway Network and the Mekong River Economic Corridor. This will make it easier for businesses to transport goods to and from Phnom Penh, and it will help to boost the city’s economy.

The official inauguration of the Third Ring Road is scheduled to take place on August 3, 2023. The ceremony will be presided over by Prime Minister Hun Sen.

The official opening of Phnom Penh’s third ring road, valued at $267 million, which was initially planned for June 30, has been postponed until after the National Election in July.

Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen made the announcement during a gathering with over 18,000 factory workers and employees in Phnom Penh last month.
