148 km NR 48 upgrade project achieved over 10%

PHNOM PENH: Representatives from the Ministry of Economy and Finance, construction companies, Ministry technical working groups, technical inspection companies, technical officers, and stakeholders inspected the progress of National Road No. 48 construction.

According to the project management unit’s report, the construction project to improve the quality of National Road No. 48 has made 10.73% progress since the construction site’s opening day under the high presidency of Samdech Akka Moha Sena Hun Sen on January 3, 2022.

The delegation inspected the technical work of a number of major construction sites during the mission, including the site of adjusting the Tatai slope in accordance with technical standards to ensure truck delivery and people movement, ensure safe driving and reduce traffic accidents, particularly by adhering to road construction technical standards that are acceptable to all stakeholders.

This road spans 148 kilometers from Chamkar Luong in Sre Ambel district to Khemarak Phoumin in Koh Kong province, with 122.9 kilometers of two lanes and 25.1 kilometers of four lanes in four locations:

1) Distance of 12 km (km 0 + 000-km 12 + 000)

2) Length of 3.4 kilometers (km 57 + 700-km 61 + 100) ​Ontung Ang point and location the first new road should be replaced (Realignment)

3) It is 4.2 kilometers long (km 124 + 400-km 128 + 600). Tatai slope and the location of the second new road (Realignment)

4) Length: 5.5 kilometers (km 142 + 500-km 148 + 038) 11 m road width (two lanes) 18.5 m to 21.5 m (four lanes) At the intersection, there is paved concrete (AC) (thickness 07 cm) and reinforced concrete (25 cm).

The 148-kilometer-long National Road No. 48 connects Preah Sihanouk Province to Koh Kong Province. The construction of National Road No. 48 begins at km 141 + 750 in O’Chrov village, Boeung Preav commune, Sre Ambel district, and continues to Khemarak Phoumin city, Koh Kong province. This road project includes two lanes with a length of 122.9 kilometers and a width of 11 meters, as well as four lanes with a length of 25.1 kilometers and a width ranging from 18.5 meters to 21.5 meters.

The project is expected to take 32 months to complete and will be completed in June 2024. The Korean group ILSUNG & HANIL Joint Venture will construct it, and the KCI & KECC Joint Venture will supervise it technically. The Government of the Republic of Korea provided a concessional loan of $ 14 million, excluding the Royal Government’s contribution for impact work and unexploded ordnance.
