PHNOM PENH: During the closing ceremony of the conference on tourism work review, His Excellency Thong Khon, the Minister of Tourism, proposed a request to Samdech Techo Prime Minister in two parts.
Firstly, the Ministry of Tourism respectfully suggested the utilization of the old International Airport in Siem Reap as an international conference and exhibition hall, after the Siem Reap-Angkor International Airport’s official opening in October 2023.
Secondly, the Minister recommended considering the feasibility of constructing a stadium in a convenient location to enhance tourism products, organize tourism events, and entice tourists to Siem Reap.
The conference focused on summarizing the plans for promoting Cambodia’s tourism sector in response to the Covid-19 crisis from the second half of 2022 to the first half of 2023. It also aimed to set the direction for implementation in 2023-2024 and took place over two days from June 21-22, 2023, at the Sokha Residence Hotel in Phnom Penh.
In addition, it’s worth noting that Angkor International Airport Investment (Cambodia) Co., Ltd. (AIAI) invested an estimated $ 880 million in constructing the new, approximately 700-hectare international airport. It is located in the Sot Nikum district, Siem Reap province, 50 kilometers from the Siem Reap city center and 40 kilometers away from the Angkor Heritage Resort.
