Techo International Airport to Begin Operations in September

PHNOM PENH: The State Secretariat of Civil Aviation (SSCA) has announced that the Techo International Airport will commence its operations in September 2025, while the official inauguration is set for October.

“The Techo International Airport will open for operations on Sept. 9, 2025. The official inauguration ceremony will be held on Oct. 20, 2025,” SSCA said in an official notice issued on May 23.

The airport’s official commencement was previously scheduled for July 10 this year. Up to date, the airport construction reached almost 96 percent.

Located approximately 20 kilometres south of Phnom Penh and spanning parts of Kandal and Takeo provinces, the US$1.5 billion Techo International Airport covers an area of 2,600 hectares. Its first phase is designed to handle over 15 million passengers annually.

The Cambodian government holds a 10 percent stake in the new airport through the SSCA, while the remaining 90 percent is owned by the local conglomerate Overseas Cambodian Investment Corporation (OCIC).

Cambodia’s aviation sector experienced robust growth in 2024, with the country’s three international airports collectively serving a record 6.2 million passengers, according to SSCA data.

Currently, 31 national and international airlines operate flights to and from Cambodia’s international airports.
