Techo International Airport Set to Boost Cambodia’s Tourism

PHNOM PENH: Cambodia’s tourism industry is expressing strong optimism about the Techo International Airport (TIA), believing it will enhance travel opportunities and attract more visitors once operational.

During a site visit on Feb. 10, members of Cambodia’s tourism associations highlighted the airport’s potential to increase direct flights and investment in the country.

“This achievement demonstrates to tourists and investors worldwide that Cambodia is ready to welcome large-scale investments, direct flights, and travelers of all nationalities,” said Mrs. Chhay Sivlin, President of the Cambodia Tourism Association.

The visit, which included around 200 members of the Cambodia Association of Travel Agents, was led by Mr. Charles Vann, Director of Cambodia Airport Investment Co., Ltd. (CAIC).

Mr. Charles Vann confirmed that the airport, located in Kandal and Takeo provinces, is now 94 percent complete and scheduled to open its first phase in July 2025.

Tourism associations and tour agencies are committed to promoting the new international airport to attract more visitors, Mrs. Chhay Sivlin added.

“With increased air connectivity from major countries, tourist arrivals will rise, leading to economic growth, job creation for locals, and expansion of tourism-related businesses,” she said.

According to the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation (SSCA), Cambodia’s three international airports handled 5.65 million passengers in 2024, marking a 39.8 percent increase from 4.04 million in 2023.
