PHNOM PENH: Angkor Archaeological Park, Cambodia’s most iconic tourist destination, welcomed 955,131 foreign visitors in 2025, representing a year-on-year decrease of 6.7 percent, according to a report released by Angkor Enterprise on Jan. 1.

Revenue from entrance pass sales reached more than US$44.7 million, down 6.51 percent compared to the previous year, the report noted.

Entrance fees to the park are set at US$37 for a one-day pass, US$62 for a three-day pass, and US$72 for a seven-day pass.

The decline in foreign tourist arrivals is attributed mainly to border tensions with Thailand, which led to the temporary closure of all land-based border checkpoints.

Acknowledging that the clashes have negatively affected the tourism sector, the Ministry of Tourism has urged private-sector stakeholders to help promote Cambodia as a safe destination for international travellers.

In response, the Ministry has launched a campaign to reassure global markets that Cambodia’s major tourist hubs, including Siem Reap province, home to the world-renowned Angkor Archaeological Park, remain peaceful, secure, and fully operational.

Located in northwestern Siem Reap province, the 401-square-kilometre Angkor Archaeological Park is home to 91 ancient temples built between the ninth and 13th centuries.

The park was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1992 and remains the most visited tourist attraction in the Kingdom.

The post Over 955,000 Foreign Tourists Visit Angkor Archeological Park in 2025 first appeared on Estatedia | Economy & Real Estate Media in Cambodia.

PHNOM PENH: The Siem Reap Provincial Administration and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) have launched the second phase of a smart city project designed to tackle pressing urban challenges in the Cambodian tourism hub.

The initiative was formally advanced following the inaugural Joint Coordinating Committee meeting, co-chaired by Siem Reap Provincial Governor H.E. Prak Sophorn and Ms. Miura Yoshiko, Senior Representative of JICA’s Cambodia Office, at the Provincial Hall yesterday.

The session concluded with the signing of meeting minutes, cementing the partnership.

This new phase builds on over four years of technical cooperation from JICA, which has included the creation of a strategic urban development plan. The collaboration has identified critical infrastructure and service issues and produced a technology-driven roadmap to guide Siem Reap’s transformation.

The project’s initial phase, concluded in May 2025, successfully deployed eight pilot projects, six of which are now fully operational.

The Japanese government has now approved Phase 2, which is scheduled to run from September 2025 through August 2028.

Governor Prak Sophorn expressed his appreciation for the Japanese government’s sustained commitment to the smart city initiative and for the long-standing support of the Japanese people to Cambodia’s development, particularly in modernising Siem Reap’s urban infrastructure.

The post Siem Reap Advances to Next Phase of Smart City Plan with Japanese Support first appeared on Estatedia | Economy & Real Estate Media in Cambodia.

PHNOM PENH: As the host of the upcoming 20th Asian Media Summit (AMS) and related meetings, Cambodia is optimistic that the event will serve as a catalyst to attract more international tourists, particularly to Siem Reap province.

Acting Director of the Siem Reap Provincial Department of Tourism Mr. Thim Sereyvuth expressed confidence in the summit’s potential to spotlight Cambodia’s tourism assets.

He noted that the event offers a unique opportunity for Siem Reap to showcase its rich cultural heritage, tourism products, and hospitality services to international delegates.

Most of the attendees are media operators and practitioners, he said, adding that if inspired by their experience in Cambodia, they could help promote Cambodia’s tourism globally through their platforms and professional networks.

He affirmed Siem Reap’s readiness to accommodate delegates with services that include internationally accredited five-star hotels and diverse culinary offerings.

According to H.E. Pang Nath, Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Information and Permanent Deputy Director of the AMS Secretariat, approximately 700 media delegates, keynote speakers, and partners from around 50 countries are expected to attend.

The summit, scheduled to take place from July 21 to 24 in Siem Reap, will feature sessions designed to foster dialogue, share experiences, and address challenges faced by the media amid rapid technological change.

He added that a cultural and tourism side event is also planned to allow participants to explore Angkor Wat and other traditional, cultural, and touristic landmarks.

H.E. Pang Nath emphasised that hosting the AMS for the second time is not only a significant honour for Cambodia but also a strategic opportunity to enhance the country’s visibility as a potential tourism destination.

Cambodia first hosted the 16th AMS in Siem Reap in 2019, drawing approximately 600 participants from 42 countries.

The post Cambodia Anticipates Tourism Boost as Host of 20th Asian Media Summit first appeared on Estatedia | Economy & Real Estate Media in Cambodia.

He highlighted the need for Cambodia to align with ASEAN Harmonized Standards by 2025 to facilitate regional trade.

Thailand topped the list of foreign arrivals to Cambodia during the said period with 1,147,534 visitors, the source added, stressing that Vietnam, China, Lao PDR, the U.S., the Republic of Korea, Indonesia, France, the United Kingdom, and Japan were among the top ten market arrivals in the January-July 2024 period.

Some 1.34 million foreign visitors, or about 36 percent of the total foreign arrivals, arrived in Cambodia by air, a year-on-year increase of 26.4 percent, and the rest via land border gates and waterways, up 21.5 percent, the report continued.

Phnom Penh capital was the most attractive tourism destination for foreign tourists, followed by Siem Reap cultural province and the coastal zone, it underlined.

At the same time, the ministry reported that the number of Cambodia’s outbound tourists rose by 5.9 percent to 1,069,078.

Mr. Thim Sereyvuth, Acting Director of the Siem Reap Provincial Department of Tourism told AKP on Aug. 23 that Siem Reap province is keen to see more tourists as their visits will contribute to the country’s economic growth and local development.

Tourism is one of the four pillars supporting Cambodia’s economy, in addition to garment, footwear, and travel goods exports; agriculture; and the construction and real estate sectors.

Last year, the Kingdom received some 5.45 million foreign visitors, earning a gross revenue of US$3.08 billion.

PHNOM PENH: Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet said on Tuesday that the Southeast Asian country needs more Chinese investments, highlighting potential areas for investment.

Speaking during a meeting in Phnom Penh with a Chinese business delegation comprised of 12 companies this week, PM Hun Manet welcomed the interest of Chinese businesspeople in investing in the kingdom, according to a news release from the prime minister’s spokesperson unit.

He said that Cambodia has prioritized investments in clean energy, environmental protection, health, agriculture, industry, and finance, among others.

He encouraged the Chinese delegation to discuss with relevant ministries and institutions, especially with the Council for the Development of Cambodia, to gain deeper insights into Cambodia’s investment potential.

China is the largest investor and trading partner of Cambodia.

Neak Chandarith, director of the Cambodia 21st Century Maritime Silk Road Research Center, said Chinese-funded enterprises have played an important role in helping boost Cambodia’s economy and improving local people’s livelihoods.

“Chinese-invested mega-projects under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) such as the Sihanoukville Special Economy Zone, hydropower plants, Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway, the Siem Reap Angkor International Airport, roads, and bridges, among others, have played and will continue to play a crucial role in supporting the kingdom’s economy,” he told Xinhua.

He said the flagship BRI projects here would help Cambodia achieve its ambitious goals of becoming an upper-middle income country by 2030 and a high-income country by 2050. Set to take place from September 24 to 29 in Guilin, China, the event promises to be a significant platform for promoting Cambodia as a top tourism destination.

With over 800 exhibition booths and 500 buyers from ASEAN member countries expected to attend, CAEXPO 2024 offers an unparalleled opportunity for Cambodian tourism businesses to showcase their offerings to a vast audience.

The event’s theme, “Deepening Integration of Culture and Tourism, Jointly Building the Belt and Road,” aligns with Cambodia’s efforts to strengthen tourism ties with China and the region.

The MoT believes that participating in CAEXPO will bolster cooperation between the public and private sectors of Cambodia, China, and ASEAN, ultimately driving tourism growth in accordance with ASEAN spirit and ‘BUILD + 3Ds’ stractegic initiative of the MoT. The event will also serve as a platform to promote the “Visit Siem Reap 2024” campaign and the “Cambodia-China People-to-People Exchange Year 2024.”

To maximize the event’s impact, the MoT encourages tourism associations, tour operators, and businesses from both the public and private sectors to join the Cambodian delegation. By collectively showcasing the best of Cambodia’s tourism offerings, the industry can effectively attract more tourists and investors from China and ASEAN member countries.

Editor’s Opinion:

The MoT’s invitation to the tourism sector to participate in CAEXPO 2024 is a strategic move that could significantly boost Cambodia’s tourism industry. With the potential to connect with 500 ASEAN buyers and thousands of visitors, this event presents an unparalleled opportunity to showcase the Kingdom’s rich cultural heritage, stunning landscapes, and warm hospitality.

By encouraging widespread participation from the tourism industry, the MoT is demonstrating a clear commitment to public-private partnerships. This collaborative approach is essential for maximizing the event’s impact and ensuring that Cambodia’s tourism offerings are presented in the best possible light.

The post MoT Invites Tourism Sector to Join China-ASEAN Expo with 800 Booths and 500 ASEAN Buyers first appeared on Estatedia | Economy & Real Estate Media in Cambodia.

This represents a 33 percent jump compared to the same period last year.

According to a report from the Angkor Enterprise released on Friday, the uptick in tourism has also boosted revenue, with ticket sales surging by 33.8 percent to US$27 million.

Ministry of Tourism’s Secretary of State and Spokesperson H.E. Top Sopheak attributed the strong recovery of Cambodia’s tourism sector to several factors. “The upgraded airport facilities in Siem Reap, coupled with Cambodia’s rich cultural heritage and stunning landscapes, have undoubtedly played crucial roles in facilitating this growth,” he said. While the figures are encouraging, the number of visitors has yet to reach pre-pandemic levels.

Cambodia’s tourism industry is experiencing a strong rebound in 2024, with the first half of the year seeing a 22% increase in international arrivals compared to the same period in 2023. This positive trend is according to a recent report by the Ministry of Tourism.

The Ministry is optimistic about the industry’s future, aiming to surpass pre-pandemic levels by 2025. Their projections indicate a potential 7 million international visitors, exceeding the 2019 figure of 6.6 million.

Angkor Archaeological Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site, spans 401 square kilometers and boasts 91 ancient temples built between the 9th and 13th centuries.

The post H.E.
