PHNOM PENH: On Wednesday, August 20, 2025, the Ministry of Commerce hosted the second meeting of the Project Steering Committee (PSC) for the European Union-German Global Access and Trade Expertise, or EU-German GATE project.

The meeting was co-chaired by Her Excellency TEKRETH Kamrang, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Commerce.

The meeting focused on key project activities, with a particular emphasis on the promotion of exports of target products, including cashews and pepper. Other topics included:

Formulating and implementing trade policies in preparation for Cambodia’s graduation from Least Developed Country (LDC) status.

Negotiating the ASEAN Digital Trade Framework Agreement.

Strengthening trade competitiveness for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

The committee reviewed the progress of these activities and provided strategic guidance to ensure the successful implementation of the project’s next steps.

Cambodia’s Push for Cashew Processing

The focus on cashew exports aligns with Cambodia’s national strategy to become a global leader in cashew production and processing. Prime Minister Hun Manet has highlighted the importance of increasing high-value production to create jobs, boost farmers’ incomes, and strengthen Cambodia’s role in the global cashew market.

Prime Minister Hun Manet recently noted that cashews are a high-potential agricultural product and that the Royal Government is implementing policies to promote investment in domestic processing facilities. This will help generate employment, increase added value, and enhance exports.

Cambodia has a vast potential for cashew cultivation across multiple provinces. In 2024, the country became the world’s second-largest producer of raw cashew nuts, with a total output of 850,000 tonnes, a 26% increase from the previous year. The country currently has over 580,000 hectares of cashew plantations.

The post EU-German GATE’s 2nd PSC Meeting Focuses on Promoting Cashew Exports first appeared on Estatedia | Economy & Real Estate Media in Cambodia.

PHNOM PENH: Cambodia exported goods worth US$14.29 billion to international markets during the first half of 2025, marking a 16.2 percent year-on-year increase, according to a report released Thursday by the General Department of Customs and Excise.

Key export items included garments, footwear, travel goods, bicycles, car tyres, solar panels, and a range of agricultural products such as rice, rubber, cassava, bananas, mangoes, and longans, the report indicated.

The Kingdom’s top five export destinations were identified as the United States, Vietnam, Japan, Canada, and China.

H.E. Penn Sovicheat, Secretary of State and Spokesperson for the Ministry of Commerce, said the robust growth in exports reflects continued demand for Cambodian products in international markets, despite global economic challenges.

He highlighted the important role of free trade agreements (FTAs)—particularly with China, South Korea, and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP)—in boosting Cambodia’s export performance.

“The implementation of FTAs has significantly reduced tariffs and trade barriers, making Cambodian goods more competitive globally. In increasingly regulated markets, regional trade under frameworks like RCEP is the best option to diversify Cambodia’s export markets,” he said.

Cambodia currently maintains FTAs with China and South Korea, and has signed the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement with the United Arab Emirates.

Meanwhile, the country’s imports reached US$16.27 billion during the January–June period, up 18 percent compared to the same period last year, the report noted.

Major imported goods included petroleum, raw materials for garment and footwear production, travel goods, vehicles, machinery, electronic appliances, and various consumer products.

The garment, footwear, and travel goods industry remains Cambodia’s largest foreign exchange earner. According to the latest data from the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training, the sector comprises approximately 1,538 factories and branches, employing about 913,000 workers, the majority of whom are women.

The post Cambodia’s Export Up 16 Percent in H1 first appeared on Estatedia | Economy & Real Estate Media in Cambodia.

PHNOM PENH: The Ministry of Commerce has unveiled the “2024 E-Commerce in Cambodia Report,” a crucial resource intended to guide policymakers, businesses, and development partners in advancing Cambodia’s e-commerce sector.

The official launch, held on February 24th, was presided over by H.E. Mrs. Cham Nimul, Minister of Commerce, and attended by key figures from various ministries, institutions, academia, and the private sector.

The report reveals significant growth in Cambodia’s e-commerce market, which was valued at $1.51 billion in 2024, up from $1.29 billion in the previous year. Projections indicate that e-commerce revenue is expected to reach $1.78 billion in 2025.

“The Ministry of Commerce is taking decisive steps to become more fit-for-purpose in supporting Cambodia’s E-commerce and digital trade ambitions,” H.E. Minister Cham Nimul stated. “By strengthening its institutional capacity, the ministry aims to provide more dedicated and targeted support to the industry, ensuring that businesses and consumers alike can fully leverage the opportunities presented by digital transformation.”

“The comprehensive report will serve as an important reference for policymakers, businesses, and development partners seeking to advance Cambodia’s E-commerce agenda,” she added. “The 2024 E-commerce Report provides a comprehensive analysis of Cambodia’s E-commerce landscape and outlines key considerations for the expansion of E-commerce and digital trade.”

Produced by PROFITENCE (Cambodia) Co., Ltd., the report is based on extensive consumer surveys and expert interviews, providing actionable recommendations tailored to the Cambodian context. It addresses both the opportunities and challenges faced by businesses and policymakers in the digital trade space.

“As Cambodia continues to deepen its digital integration, the evolution from E-commerce to a broader digital trade ecosystem will be instrumental in ensuring long-term economic resilience and global competitiveness,” the minister said, highlighting the report’s timely release as Cambodia progresses towards LDC graduation in 2029.

The report emphasizes the need for nationwide inclusivity, recommending improvements in infrastructure, strengthened regulations, localized strategies, and enhanced consumer education to ensure equitable access to the benefits of e-commerce and digital trade.

The post “2024 E-Commerce in Cambodia” Report Launched, Minister Emphasizes Digital Trade Growth first appeared on Estatedia | Economy & Real Estate Media in Cambodia.
