PHNOM PENH: Cambodia and Germany are moving to deepen agricultural ties, with a major German spice firm eyeing new processing investments in the Southeast Asian nation, officials said on Thursday.

Cambodian Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries, H.E. Dith Tina met in Phnom Penh with German Ambassador to Cambodia H.E. Stefan Messerer and a delegation from Fuchs Gruppe, led by CEO Nils Meyer-Pries, to discuss expanding agro-industrial trade and technical cooperation.

The talks centered on a potential move by Fuchs Gruppe – one of the world’s largest spice producers – to establish processing operations for Cambodian pepper. Such an investment would represent a significant step up the value chain for Cambodia, which has long sought to move beyond exporting raw commodities toward high-value, processed agricultural goods.

H.E. Minister Dith Tina welcomed the initiative, noting that domestic processing would “add significant value” to the local sector and help propel Cambodian farm produce into more competitive international markets.

The Minister highlighted the success of joint training programmes for Good Agricultural Practices (GAP), a critical framework for meeting the stringent sanitary and phytosanitary requirements of the European market.

By partnering with German industry leaders, Cambodia aims to leverage German expertise to improve the sustainability and efficiency of its pepper and spice production.

Both parties signaled a long-term commitment to enhancing the agro-industrial pipeline between the two nations.

The post Cambodia Eyes Global Pepper Markets as Germany’s Fuchs Gruppe Weighs Processing Investment first appeared on Estatedia | Economy & Real Estate Media in Cambodia.

PHNOM PENH: Despite a 1.8 percent increase in world rice prices between December and January, quotations remained well below year-earlier levels across Southeast Asia, the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) says.

According to the UN agency’s monthly Food Price Monitoring and Analysis Bulletin released on Wednesday, recent prices were as much as 30 percent down from a year earlier.

In Cambodia, wholesale rice prices were between 5 and 25 percent lower year-on-year in December, reflecting last year’s above-average main harvest.

The bulletin noted a government allocation of US$40 million in November to buy rice from farmers at fair prices, “with the aim of stabilising falling domestic prices of rice and safeguarding farmers’ livelihoods.”

In Vietnam, wholesale prices in January were between 10 and 30 percent below year-earlier levels, “reflecting ample market availability from the above-average 2025 harvests and subdued international demand,” the bulletin said.

Vietnamese sales to Filipino buyers after last month’s removal of a Philippine import ban on non-specialty rice “proved insufficient to offset downward pressure exerted by large exportable supplies and subdued demand from other buyers.”

In Thailand, prices were about 25 percent below year-earlier levels in January, following a downward trend between June 2024 and October 2025.

“A slowdown in sales led to price declines, despite the continued appreciation of the baht against the United States dollar,” the bulletin said.

In Myanmar, prices in January were about 10 percent down from a year earlier but “remained relatively high following the sharp increases between 2022 and 2024 linked to high input and transport costs, ongoing conflict and flood-related disruptions in mid-2025.”

In the Philippines, retail prices of regular and well-milled rice in January were 8 to 10 percent lower year-on-year, reflecting adequate availability from the main harvest and secondary harvest currently underway.

Elsewhere in Asia, the wholesale national average price of Indica rice in China in January was about 4 percent lower year-on-year, reflecting ample market availability from the record production harvested in 2024 and 2025.

The post Amid Bumper Harvests, Rice Prices Remain Depressed Across Southeast Asia first appeared on Estatedia | Economy & Real Estate Media in Cambodia.

PHNOM PENH: Cambodia’s Ministry of Commerce on Saturday launched the “National Product Campaign #MadeInCambodia,” a strategic push to elevate the profile of domestic goods and integrate local producers into modern retail supply chains.

The campaign, unveiled at the Chip Mong 271 Mega Mall in the capital, aims to shift consumer behaviour toward “Khmer-made” products, ranging from agricultural staples to artisanal crafts and manufactured goods.

Minister of Commerce H.E. Mrs. Cham Nimul, who presided over the launch, noted the timing of the event – coinciding with Valentine’s Day – was a deliberate effort to frame the support of local industry as a “patriotic expression of love” for the nation’s farmers and entrepreneurs.

The ministry outlined three primary pillars for the year-long programme: Promoting the quality and diversity of domestic products to improve brand perception among Cambodian citizens; Acting as a broker to connect local micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) with major supermarkets, malls, and convenience stores; Coordinating with over 300 retail outlets across the country to secure prominent, high-traffic shelf space and dedicated displays for national products.

The event was attended by senior Royal Government officials and executives from Chip Mong Retail, one of the country’s largest commercial conglomerates, highlighting the private sector’s role in the Royal Government’s economic diversification strategy.

The post Cambodia Launches #MadeInCambodia Campaign to Promote Domestic Products first appeared on Estatedia | Economy & Real Estate Media in Cambodia.

The detailed trade data highlights a robust shift in Cambodia’s industrial output and economic structure. While traditional garment exports grew by 16.4%, non-garment investment products—including automotive tires, electronic components, wiring harnesses, and furniture—surged by 20.1%, signaling a successful diversification of the nation’s manufacturing base.

However, the agricultural sector faced notable headwinds, with exports of staples such as rice, cashew nuts, rubber, and potatoes seeing a 4.4% decline. On the import side, the influx of goods was dominated by metal products, vehicles, textile and industrial raw materials, and machinery for investment projects.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance, His Excellency Professor Aun Pornmonirath, lauded the GDCE for maintaining strong revenue collection despite a series of external challenges. The Deputy Prime Minister noted that the 2025 fiscal year was marked by acute uncertainty in the global geopolitical and geo-economic situation.

This included the closure of the Cambodia-Thailand land border starting in mid-2025, the announcement of retaliatory tariffs by the United States in the second quarter, and the ongoing global disruptions caused by the prolonged Russia-Ukraine war.

In response to these challenges, the Royal Government has laid out a strategic vision for 2026 focused on modernization, integrity, and efficiency. Professor Aun Pornmonirath issued several key directives to improve the investment climate, including a mandate to transition the Cambodian Customs Administration toward a fully digital, automated system.

Other priorities for the coming year include intensifying efforts to combat tax evasion, strengthening compliance with rules of origin for exported products, and expanding the Authorized Economic Operator program to facilitate smoother trade for compliant companies.

The Ministry of Economy and Finance reaffirmed its commitment to supporting these reforms, aiming to ensure that Cambodia remains a competitive hub for international trade. The government plans to continue implementing incentive mechanisms for Qualified Investment Projects while promoting better governance and responsibility among customs officials at all levels to navigate the complex global economic landscape ahead.

The post Cambodia’s Trade Surges Past $64 Billion in 2025 Despite Global Volatility first appeared on Estatedia | Economy & Real Estate Media in Cambodia.

PHNOM PENH: Cambodia and Vietnam are committed to boosting bilateral trade to US$20 billion in the coming years, while further strengthening cooperation across key sectors.

The commitment was reaffirmed during a bilateral talk between Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet and Vietnamese Prime Minister H.E. Pham Minh Chinh at the January 7 Palace in Phnom Penh yesterday afternoon. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the trilateral meeting among the leaders of the Cambodian People’s Party, the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party, hosted by Cambodia from Feb. 6-7.

Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet warmly welcomed Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his delegation, expressing satisfaction with Vietnam’s participation in the fourth trilateral summit. The previous session held in Ho Chi Minh City in February 2025.

The two leaders highly valued the strong bilateral relationship and cooperation at all levels, which continue to support socio-economic development in line with the guiding principle of “good neighbourliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation and long-term stability.”

They exchanged views on further expanding cooperation in key areas, including politics and diplomacy, trade and investment, defence and security, energy, education and training, tourism, culture, and transport connectivity, particularly the Phnom Penh–Bavet and Ho Chi Minh City-Moc Bai expressways.

Both sides pledged to continue promoting two-way trade growth toward the US$20 billion target, while enhancing cooperation among border provinces to combat cross-border crime, human trafficking and cyber fraud, with the aim of transforming shared borders into zones of peace, friendship, cooperation and development.

The two prime ministers also underscored the importance of strengthening exchanges between the younger generations of both countries to foster mutual understanding and deepen awareness of their shared history.

The post Cambodia, Vietnam Commit to Boost Two-Way Trade to US$20 Billion first appeared on Estatedia | Economy & Real Estate Media in Cambodia.
