On March 26, 2018, the Royal Government of Cambodia embarked on a transformative journey, initiating the project to upgrade National Road No. 5 (ASEAN Highway No. 1). After 55 months of dedicated construction, the project culminated in a resounding success on January 10, 2022.

The newly upgraded National Road No. 5, paved with resilient AC concrete, stretches an impressive 366 kilometers, traversing the provinces of Kandal, Kampong Chhnang, Pursat, Battambang, and Banteay Meanchey. It seamlessly connects Prek Kdam in Kandal province to Poipet City in Banteay Meanchey province, serving as a vital economic lifeline for the region.

This transformative project has been meticulously divided into three sections: the first section in the north (Battambang-Serey Sophorn), the second section in the south (Prek Kdam-Thla Mam), and the third section in the middle (Thla Mam – Battambang and Serei Sophorn – Poipet).
