PHNOM PENH: Cambodia’s garment manufacturing sector has continued to expand, with 1,810 active factories as of October 2025, a 15.5 percent increase from 1,566 factories at the end of 2024, according to a report released Tuesday by the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training.

H.E. Sun Mesa, Spokesperson for the Ministry, said the steady growth reflects investors’ continued confidence in the Kingdom’s economic environment.

He noted that the Ministry is working to promote a favourable investment climate by providing skills training to strengthen the workforce and improving labour conditions to attract investors amid global economic uncertainties.

“The favourable working conditions, skilled workforce, peace and political stability, combined with flexible investment incentives, have contributed to the continuous increase in manufacturing investment,” he said.

The garment, textile, footwear, and travel goods (GFT) industry remains Cambodia’s largest source of foreign exchange.

Cambodia exported GFT products worth US$13.6 billion in the first ten months of 2025, according to the Ministry of Commerce.

Garment exports reached US$9.62 billion during January-October, a year-on-year increase of 20.3 percent. Textile exports stood at US$564 million, up 38.7 percent.

Footwear exports rose 30 percent to US$1.73 billion, while travel goods and bags accounted for US$1.7 billion, up 5.8 percent, the report added.

The main export markets for Cambodia’s GFT products are the U.S., EU, Canada, and Japan.

The sector currently employs more than 1.11 million workers, the majority of whom are women, the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training said.

The post Garment Factories Increase to Over 1,800 first appeared on Estatedia | Economy & Real Estate Media in Cambodia.

PHNOM PENH: The Cambodian garment, footwear, and travel goods industry exported US$6.27 billion worth of products in the first 7 months of 2023, a decline from the US$7.89 billion exported during the same period last year.

The decline in exports is believed in attributed to a number of factors, including the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the Russia-Ukraine war, and rising inflation. However, the industry is still expected to grow in the coming years, as Cambodia remains a competitive destination for garment manufacturing.

Among the factories, there are 802 garment factories, 140 shoe factories, and 134 travel goods factories. The sector is the largest foreign exchange earner for Cambodia, employing approximately 800,000 workers, mostly female. The monthly minimum wage for the sector is US$200 in 2023, up from US$194 in 2022.

The figure reported in a meeting on Wednesday, the National Council on Minimum Wage began to discuss the annual increase of monthly minimum wage for the garment, footwear, and travel goods industry for 2024.

In the meeting, the first of a series of meetings, the trio parties presented key statistical updates on socio-economic criteria to form the basis for the minimum wage talks as well as input such as current inflation, competition, and market situation from the representatives of employers and employees.
