PHNOM PENH: A new youth-led enterprise in the Angkor region is harnessing the power of local products and skills to stimulate community economic growth, create jobs, and provide vocational training.
Founded by Mr. Sotr Suor from Prasat Bakong district, Siem Reap province, the “Pop Up Cafe” initiative is dedicated to enhancing local livelihoods. The venture trains young residents in professional coffee and beverage preparation, baking, and ice cream production, while instilling high standards of customer service and hygiene.

Mr. Suor emphasised the group’s deep ties to the Angkor community as the driving force behind their mission. “As descendants of this historic region, we are committed to a ‘Khmer helping Khmer’ ethos,” he stated. The cafe sources its fruits and raw materials directly from farmers and producers within the Angkor area, bolstering local agriculture and celebrating the region’s culinary heritage.
Strategically located to serve both the community and tourists, Pop Up Cafe operates two outlets: one along National Road 6 in Prasat Bakong’s grilled chicken market area, and another in front of the Angkor Wat temple complex. Mr. Suor noted that the business acts as a complementary attraction for visitors to the Angkor Archaeological Park, enhancing the tourist experience while promoting environmental sustainability through reduced plastic use.
