PHNOM PENH: Siem Reap province is planning various entertainment programs to welcome national and international visitors during the upcoming Water Festival, one of Cambodia’s biggest celebrations.
According to Mr. Ngov Sengkak, Director of the Siem Reap Provincial Department of Tourism, the cultural province will celebrate boat racing, illuminated floating boats, moon salutations, and pounded rice eating along the Siem Reap River.
The Siem Reap provincial administration, in cooperation with the Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia and the private sector, will organize other activities, including boat tours, water markets, exhibitions, concerts, and Khmer boxing.
Key tourism destinations in the province are also ready to serve visitors.
The provincial authority has instructed the tourism service providers to ensure high-quality service provision and not to increase their fees.
In the first nine months of 2023, about 71 percent of the total 1,165 locations of tourism businesses in Siem Reap have just reopened their operations since the closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Cambodia will celebrate the Water Festival on Nov. 26–28, and Siem Reap will begin the celebration one day earlier, running until Oct. 29.
