SUWON, SOUTH KOREA — Samsung Electronics has officially confirmed that it is conducting a comprehensive feasibility study regarding a potential investment expansion project in Cambodia, according to an AKP release.
The announcement came during a high-level diplomatic meeting on Monday morning, June 15, 2026, at Samsung’s global headquarters located within the Samsung Innovation Center in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province.
The meeting took place on the first day of an official Cambodian mission to the Republic of Korea aimed at attracting and promoting foreign direct investment. His Excellency Sun Chanthol, Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice President of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), led the prominent Cambodian delegation in talks with Mr. Park Seung-Hee, Samsung Electronics’ General Manager of Business Relations.
The Cambodian delegation included Ambassador Khuon Phon Rattanak, Incheon Chamber of Commerce President Park Joo-bong, Ministry of Commerce officials, and representatives from both the Cambodian Chamber of Commerce and the Cambodian Oknha Association.
During the discussions, Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol highlighted Cambodia’s regional comparative advantages, emphasizing how the country’s current economic trajectory aligns with Samsung’s long-term strategic planning.
In response, Samsung’s leadership acknowledged Cambodia’s growing economic potential. Company representatives noted that they are actively analyzing the country’s positive investment indicators. However, they clarified that a final expansion decision requires navigating internal corporate procedures sequentially, meaning the evaluation process will take some time.
To facilitate a favorable outcome, Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol assured Samsung that the Royal Government of Cambodia stands ready to provide full coordination and any necessary strategic data to ensure the company has a clear, comprehensive basis for its final evaluation.
Samsung Suwon HQ: Established in 1969 and located roughly 30 kilometers south of Seoul, Samsung Electronics’ massive Suwon headquarters currently employs approximately 35,000 people.
