Rehabilitation and upgrading of national road 33 reaches 33.39% completion

PHNOM PENH: The rehabilitation and upgrading of National Road 33 has reached a completion milestone of 33.39%, according to a site visit conducted by H.E. Pal Chandara, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, and the technical working group of China Road Bridge Corporation (CRBC) on July 13, 2023.

The project is a part of the major plan for the Cambodian government to spend $ 121 million on National Road 31 and National Road 33 rehabilitation and upgrading and which is funded by a concessional loan from the Government of the People’s Republic of China.

It involves the rehabilitation and upgrading of 52.57 kilometers of road from Kampot town to Chrak Lok, including the construction of a new Kbal Romeas Bridge at km 04 + 791.

As of July 7, 2023, significant progress has been made on the project, including, clearance and clearing work has reached 52.57 kilometers, sub-grade road construction work has reached 49.88 kilometers and
sub-base layers construction has been completed on 36.76 kilometers.

During the site visit, the H.E. Secretary of State emphasized the importance of executing the project with utmost precision and technical proficiency to ensure the avoidance of errors or redundancies. He also instructed the construction companies to carefully consider the safety at the site by putting up signs, warning signs, avoiding traffic and watering, and reducing dust, to avoid disturbing the people.

The successful completion of the rehabilitation and upgrading of National Road 33 is expected to improve connectivity, transportation efficiency, and accessibility for residents and businesses along this crucial corridor. It will also pave the way for enhanced real estate development, facilitating economic growth and improving the overall quality of life for communities in the region.
