PHNOM PENH — According to an AKP release today, Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet highlighted Cambodia’s infrastructure progress on Tuesday during the official inauguration of the upgraded 45.489-kilometre section of National Road No. 7.
Presiding over the ceremony alongside Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia H.E. Wang Wenbin in Kampong Cham province, the Premier emphasized that quality infrastructure drives the country forward.
Reaffirming the Royal Government’s long-term infrastructure strategy, the Prime Minister stated that roads remain the “arteries of the national economy.” He emphasized that continued development priority will be given across road, rail, waterway, and air transport, driven by the guiding philosophy, “Where there is a road, there is hope.”
Samdech Thipadei underlined that the newly expanded four-lane stretch—running from the Skun Roundabout to the Kizuna Bridge Roundabout—enables faster, safer, and more efficient travel.
“Improved roads lower transportation costs for agricultural products by reducing travel time, which in turn helps save fuel, reduce vehicle wear and tear, and cut overall logistics expenses,” the Prime Minister noted.
Beyond facilitating immediate travel and logistics, the Premier added that the upgraded road is expected to attract greater industrial investment, prompting new factories, production facilities, and commercial establishments to open along the route due to its enhanced connectivity.
Looking ahead, Samdech Thipadei announced that the government is already preparing to further upgrade the remaining 500-plus kilometres of National Road No. 7 all the way to the Cambodia-Laos border. He recalled that Cambodia and Laos officially launched a Transit Transport Corridor on June 22, 2026, a move designed to seamlessly facilitate the export of Cambodian agricultural and agro-industrial products to China via Laos.
The Prime Minister concluded by urging motorists to strictly observe traffic laws, respect speed limits, avoid overloading vehicles, and actively protect the nation’s newly built infrastructure.
Project Overview
The 45.489-kilometre expansion from Skun Roundabout to the Kizuna Bridge Roundabout was constructed by China Road and Bridge Corporation under Guangzhou Wanan Engineering Consulting supervision and completed 15 months ahead of schedule on June 15, 2026, after a 27-month build costing over US$117 million funded by a Chinese concessional loan and Cambodian counterpart funds for taxes, land acquisition, and mine clearance.
