PHNOM PENH- According to an AKP release, the Ministry of Tourism and the Phnom Penh Capital Administration officially launched the Phnom Penh Tourism Development Plan 2026–2030 on August 17 at Phnom Penh Capital Hall.
The launch ceremony was presided over by Minister of Tourism H.E. Huot Hak and Phnom Penh Governor H.E. Khuong Sreng, establishing a strategic framework to position the capital as a premier regional urban destination.
Designed as a actionable roadmap, the plan mobilizes key stakeholders to enhance the city’s competitiveness through three core pillars: “Clean, Smart, and Green.” Beyond serving as Cambodia’s political, economic, and cultural heart, Phnom Penh acts as the nation’s primary international gateway, connecting travelers to destinations across the country while showcasing its own vibrant heritage and modern additions, such as the popular Chaktomuk Pedestrian Walkway.
During the event, H.E. Huot Hak commended active support for the ongoing “Visit Cambodia Green Season” campaign and emphasized the need for continuous innovation.
To remain competitive against shifting traveler expectations and regional competition, the Minister noted that Cambodia must build beyond its traditional assets by creating new tourism products, raising service standards, and ensuring safety for all visitors.
Phnom Penh lies in Cambodia’s south-central plains at the Chaktomuk river confluence where the Mekong, Tonle Sap, and Bassac rivers cross, operating as a key riverine hub with a tropical monsoon climate.
As the national economic engine, the city concentrates corporate headquarters, financial hubs, and foreign investments supported by expanding infrastructure, real estate growth, and direct international transit connections.
The capital blends historic Khmer architecture and French colonial landmarks with modern public spaces, highlighted by the Royal Palace, Silver Pagoda, National Museum, Central Market, Sisowath Quay, and the Chaktomuk Pedestrian Walkway.
